Question Dry filter plus intake

OK looking at getting an intake sooner than later, I dont want an oiled filter would prefer using a dry filter even if I need a pre-filter.

Now what im wondering is who all makes dry filters and which ones are actually good? And also the intake part of it, stay stock and swiss cheese it or go with something like a Volant or S&B. I really want an enclosed filter just feel safer with one.

Also please dont suggest an oiled filter even if it may be good I would rather pull it out and vacuum or blow it out or even replace it then have to degrease then re-oil I have dealt with K&N's and other oiled filters before and just not a big fan.

Amsoil makes a nano-fiber dry filter, EaAU is the nomenclature.

I ordered the AMSOIL EaA189 air filter. A piece of 5'' ID aluminum intake tube to replace the torque tube. I'm going to make a 4 1/2'' or 5'' cold air scoop-check link to see what I'm talking about.http://www.dieselpowerproducts.com/cool_power

Stock Filter Box Mod

An inexpensive home grown modification is to cut a 4" hole in the bottom of your stock air filter box and get a clothes dryer vent kit from the hardware store. Remove the hood and flapper from the vent and push it through the hole in the air box so the flange is inside the air box and screw it to the air box. Take the flexible hose and attached to the vent tube and run down to the front bumper and attach with a zip tie to some point behind the bumper. Since it is in front of the front tire you will reduce the amount of dust ingested on dirt road and the intake is not in the engine bay where the ambient air temperature is higher than outside temperature. Good luck!

I didn't think about using a dryer vent kit good idle. I thought about every thing else I could use. Thats why I love this site, other people think for me. I have clearance for maybe a 5'' tube or hose out of the bottom of the air box. Thought I would go with the most flow I can get. This is a good place to tubinghttp://store.airflo.com/al5.html.

I was going to use the Ams. eaau in my custom intake til they told me it was only absolute at 15 microns but I'm sure that would beat K&N. I used 2 big round paper filters. Craig

Do you have a way to check the air temp with or without your cold air intake?

Wink

Cool Hose @ www.dieselpowerproducts.com
Find the Amsoil Nano Drop-In replacement filter EaA189.
This setup will work the best. The filter is good for 100K and you clean it with 20 PSI shop air @ 25K intervals. The Cool Hose reduce`s intake air temps and allows an unrestricted air flow. You could even cut a 4 inch hole in the bottom of the stock air box for more flow, add a length of 4 inch ducting to keep it from sucking in any water. This work and sounds great. Cheap too.

Thanks for all the ideas!

I think I need to look at more of like what other members have done and compile one from them all....I do like the dryer vent idea as well as still keeping the stock box.

Just curious, anyone know if you can put a dry filter on a Volant system? That would give you te best of both worlds me thinks...
