Pressure Box, Timing Box, Programmers.......Which & Why

Which do I want and why?

What exactly is meant by a Pressure box? What is a product example?

What exactly is meant by a Timing Box? What is a product example?

I am familiar with programmers, like a Hypertech, Smarty, etc. Do the programmers have the features of the timing and pressure boxes, plus more?

It seems like initially I was going to look at an EZ Edge with a Commander monitor...but after reading I think I want a programmer with a monitor.

All I currently have for "performance" mods are a 5" MBRP turbo-back exhaust, AFE Bladerunner, and an AEM Workhorse HD intake.

Any thoughts, ideas, or suggestions are appreciated!

A pressure box is an electronic module that plugs inline at the coupling of the fuel rail pressure sensor. It fools the pressure pump into sensing a lower pressure than actual, so the pump kicks up the pressure. Hence, you have more fuel pressure to the injectors, and more fuel is delivered.

A timing box is a module that generally plugs inline at the coupling of the manifold absolute pressure sensor and the fuel rail pressure sensor. It alters the signals coming back from those sensors in such a way that tricks the ECM into fueling at different times than stock programming.

The programmers will alter timing, duration, pressure, and more.

But you are going to require gauges first some tranny help and a turbo down the line too... if you want to realize something close to the full potential of the smarty.

Turbo funds will have to wait till next year, but I think a Smarty is one the top of the wish list........

Just make sure if you get something that uses pressure that you are careful with it as our injectors have been know to crack due to too much pressure. I just ordered my smarty yesterday. I have had wiring issues with 2 different boxes now and am tired of dealing with more external wires. The one down side is most programmers are not changable on the fly. If you search around there are a few who claim to be.
