Overdrive tranny issues

Well were do I start? My first transmission was 1)stock with ATS convertor and valvebody, put 5,xxx mi and about 12 sled pulls on it with about 550 hp and lost overdrive tranny was junk and ruined billit input. 2)Dodge rebuilt it for me with suncoast parts and red clutches, put approx 2'xxx mi on it and 4 pulls and lost overdrive, took tranny to HTS this time and decided it was junk again. 3) HTS rebuilt tranny with everything we thought we could throw at it and after 4 pulls and almost 3,xxx overdrive is out again. I pulled it all 4 times the same night and after the first time it was bouncing off the rev limiter in 3rd.

Transmission still burns tires loose with little effort but has on every tranny so far when they were junk. My buddy has gone thru 1 stock and 4 GB trannys and never lost overdrive it would just slip.

I'm going to call Dusty Monday morning but what can I do to get this thing to hold?

Are you rebuilding the same transmission of getting a different one?

If its the same case, there is a problem in it somewhere. Loosing OD is usually just a symptom of a problem somewhere else unles you run in OD all the time. Somehow I don't think thats your problem.

If its slipping drive all the time thats sounds about right for one of the suspect cases.

Ya its been the same case every time, and overdrive clutches aren't slipped or melted, it usually blows the seal out.

Well got tranny fixed today with some parts and help from Dusty at HTS. Had to replace all the clutches in overdrive unit. It actually broke 1/4 inch off of one 3/4 way around it,all friction material was gone, clutches were all cupped and of course the seals were blown. We kinda figured out it was from tranny going into overdrive with sled pulling that keeps burning up overdrive. I finally put a BD overdrive lock out box on my truck since you can't do it on the 05's.
Once again I want to mention how great Dusty at HTS was to work with and had parts in 2 days, excellent service, and second to none. Thanks Dusty.

could have had the dealer reflash to change tow/haul to overdrive lockout for $20.

I had a similar issue, tranny worked great in 1-2 and 3 but in overdrive no worky. Come to find out broke retainer ring and destroyed clutches. Replaced third hub and clutches and now she rocks again. Was causing all kinds of pressure issues and overdrive shifting issues. Took awhile to figure out, thanks to forum members, I got ur done

Been there done that and it was free. Lasted till I put programmer back on and was gone. There was a thread some where on this with dealer flash. Many other people had same problem with flash disappearing after programmer was put back on.
