Lift Pump ?s

Looking at the 2003/04 BD lift pump kit. Is this pump reliable? Anyone know who makes the pump? Are the pumps serviceable?

I have a Walbro 392 pump on my truck and love it. It was easy to install with no problems. Instructions were one of the best that I have seen for aftermarket parts. Just my two cents.

The Walbro is much quieter than the BD pump.

I've seen a few ppl have pump failures with them, but the pump is plentiful. The walbro kit is a better buy IMO and the Airdog is an even better buy.

Stay away from the BD kit if you are wanting a higher pressure. All I could get was 10 psi @ idle and 6@ WOT. Tries 2 of their pumps ( carter P4601HP ) and no difference between the 2. Finally went with a Walbro and regulator from GDP. Rich is a great guy, and is more than willing to help out. I spoke with him before my BD kit purchase ( and should have listened! ) and he was still more than happy to help after I called with trouble. In the end.........I should have listened to all that TOLD me to stay away from the Carter pump to begin with! BD was great to deal with. They got me refunds for the entire kit, and for the second pump I bought, and they let me keep half of the kit because it was already installed. I wouldn't hesitate to buy anything from BD again because of that. They were very good to deal with as far as customer service goes.

I went the BD/Carter route the first time and after two pumps, lots of noise and low pressure I got a FASS. That was two years ago and still running strong with no pressure drop. It's a little noisy but not as noisy as the Carters were. I went through two Carters in about two months. Save your money and time and do it right the first time.

I think everyone here has said it perfectly. And that says alot about using a carburetor pump (carter) in our application. DON'T DO IT...

Walbro ran here....

the next carter we get in the shop, witch will be soon (we get about 1 every 2-3 months) I will take a few pics of the plastic bushing that the motor engages on the pump rotor....it's a junk design IMHO..I never see bad motors..just stripped plastic bushing's...save your self the hassle there are way better options out there for lift pumps.

I had a homemade carter set up on my 01. It would flow good but wouldnt last to long. Went through a few of them in the 68k I had the truck. Still have one in the garage. Was a buzzy little sucker too. So that cancels the bd out. Im leaning torwards the 150 raptor. For 379 it should come with everything i need for an easy, quick swap, right?
