So I took my first towing trip with the new 351 on Sunday, worked great! About 90 miles round trip with the small gooseneck horse trailer and 2 horses, boost pressure on the flat at 60mph was lower, egt's probably a little lower 5psi, 575*. Only one "hill" so to speak, started at the bottom @62mph, 1700 rpm, dropped to 1600rpm, downshifted to 5th and matted it and was hard pressed to get egt's over 1000*.

Next month I will be taking the toyhauler (15k) down I81 thru Pa. so we will see how it does on the bigger hills down there. I definately like it so far!!

Time to get a Smarty JR now.

It would be very hard to hold the turbo in place while you try to get bolts w/ nuts on the back side of the mounting flange. It is hard enough doing it with the studs back there.

Where do you have your pyro installed? The other day on a back road I hit 36psi @ 1200* empty. Highway I'm at 700-800* 5-7psi flat road. In city I easily see 900* with moderate throttle. Jr is on performance. Haven't had a chance yet to tow my 5th.

Well my AFE 4" exhaust kit showed up today

So I am finally ready to install my 351 and 04.5 Turbo back exhaust with the 4" elbow.

ATS plug also showed up and is in.

My current plan is not use a use a boost elbow. I plan on just leaving the hose in the stock location (which should be blocked by the plug) and therefore disable the wastegate.

From what I have been reading, there doesn't seem to be a real need for the boost elbow.

I figure if I need an elbow i will drill and tap the ATS plug for one and be done with it. I have access to a mill so I should be able to put a nice centered through hole in the fancy ATS plug.

Also, if someone wants to clarify this for me?

People using a Boost Fooler on the 04.5-07 turbo are therefore diabling the wastegate, correct? This happens by the electronic controller not opening the wastegate?

So therefore, by me not hooking up the wastegate to a boost source I am accomplishing the same thing as a boost fooler?

I was looking at an HE351 today....I see that it has a hose running from the wastegate into the area by the electronic solenoid.

After the electronic solenoid is plugged or disabled, what are you guys doing with the fitting for the hose (by the solenoid)??

Are you guys just running the hose in the adjustable boost elbow and plugging the stock hose fitting?

I think thats the most common. It looks too tight to get a boost elbow in the stock hole, but you could probably put a 45* fitting in there and get the eblow i the 45* fitting, if you didn't want to drill any more holes.

It is pre turbo, above the mounting flange in the rear 1/2. I am thinking the JR on performance is the big difference.

For those that can weld aluminum, I just welded the hole shut and got a friend to machine an aluminum plug and I just tig welded it in place. My wastegate is pinched with vice grips for now as you can see until I get some bigger injectors.

Then I can just get a manual boost controller and put it in the rubber wastegate line.
