I am planning on installing an HE351 with a 2nd gen mani. Does anybody know if this will work or not and what kind of special tools or parts i will need?

I looked into this as well, but the problem is the intercooler piping. It will be hard to get it in there and have an air intake.

Look at pics of BigBlue's 2nd gen. Not sure if you could route the piping like he did and have the air intake were the 3rd gen intake is.

Also, I put my 04.5 Turbo back 4" AFE exhaust on my HE341 turbo yesturday with the 04.5 elbow. Was tight on the tranny dipstick. Had to do a little bending in order to get it to fit.

Need to swap turbos here in the next few weeks.

Install this plug, drill & tap the compressor housing for an adjustable boost elbow (available on e-bay) & the turbo is ready for upgrading 2003 - 2004 trucks. It's a direct swap & really wakes up these early common rail Dodge's.

Part #'s for the ATS plug:
2272-202-003 Wastegate solenoid cap
9263K143 O-ring (1)
9263K305 O-ring (2)
.
Just to make sure does that mean a total of three orings

When I ordered mine(about 2 weeks ago), they only had two o-rings on the invoice but sent me three(all on the plug).

You will need to drill out 2 holes on the manifold or turbo. I can't remember what I did.

On my first gen I am seeing 30psi with a semi-turned up pump. Can't get over 1000degrees.

my 351 i adjusted the rod so that the WG just starts to open at 30 psi and i mean you can barely spin the plate at 30-32 psi and it's not even off the mating surface at that point at 35-39 it's an 1/8" open at 45 its a 1/4"+ open. (using an adjustable pressure regulator on my air compressor to set things.

I might be opening it too soon so feedback is welcome.

I took a dremmel and carbide bit and in 30 minutes opened up the WG passage to the diameter a little larger than that of a quarter and then polished with some stones. looks good we'll see how she performs.

I still need to block off the port ant then i should be good to go.

Looking at ditching my S300 62/12 with the pending CA smog inspections coming . If it looks stock then they assume it is stock. a S300 with a big WG will raise an eyebrow or two when its barely 1/4" from the shock tower

Let us know how it compares it to the 62/12 in spoolup and EGTs. I thought about running that turbo on my truck as well.

Do you shorten or make the rod longer?

shortened the rod.

legthening would make it open sooner. i am concerned that drive pressure will over power the WG still and possibly open it up too soon, but that may not be an issue. i plan to swap when i change out my exhaust brake in a week or so.

Finally got her on!

Went on easy. 15mm box end wrench pulled the four nuts off the manifold no problem. Didn't even need a breaker bar.

PB blaster might of done the job though. Soaked it last night and had been spraying it off and on for the last few weeks.

This was pretty easy. Took me about 3-3.5 hours. Would rather swap turbos then do an exhaust honestly. Definitely would rather swap turbos then install another Airdog.

I included pictures. The only thing that is tight is the compressor housing near the motor mount. This is close, especially with the 2 longer studs. I used a prybar and she popped right into place though.

The only thing I would do differently if I did this again would be pull off the tire for even more room in the wheel well. I can't see pulling the manifold being easier at all. Maybe if your putting Silver Bullet 66 on there and need that room.

As for the results I am very happy with it. Truck definitely feels more responsive for sure.

EGTs are pretty similar to before, maybe a tad lower (50-100 deg). SW5 on the Smarty Wide open pull from 15 MPH roll resulted in egts of about 1100 ish deg and that was up to about 90 MPH. Ater my exhuast but with the 341 I was running about 1150-1200 to 80 MPH.

Boost was right around 32-33 psi. I did not hook up the wastegate or boost elbow at all.

Now I tried SW 7 briefly for the 1st time. WOW, SW7 runs a lot harder then SW5. Now boost was running about 36-38 psi and egts to about 70 MPH were around 1200-1250.

These #s are about perfect for me.

Now I just need to order my converter so I can SW7 all the time

I am prob going to be doing the 351 swap and 2nd gen mani swap at the sam etime as soon as my plug and o rings come in. i know that i will have to work on the downpipe some and get rid of my AFE intake and make something but i am going to give it a try anyway.
