Factory High idle
I was recently told that my truck (a 2003 dodge diesel)needs to have something installed to make it idle at 1300 rpm not at 1000 rpm. Is this true? Is there a way to set the idle to rev up to 1300 with out purchasing this so called thing? thanks for your time.
p.s. has been 30 plus below lately how much will the grill covers help the interior heat?

I don't know of any device available yet for third gen trucks that will make them high idle at anything other then 1000 rpm and at the parameters specified in the computer. A lot of us have been looking though. I think the demand will be there for someone to invent it. I know I'm getting tired of using my idle stick

Can't help you about winter fronts, but there's been lots of posts lately about them.
Just came back from 6 months in Anchorage Alaska and I ran winter fronts as soon as the temp got below 45*. The best addition I made as for as warm up and maintaning temp was the Jacobs exhaust brake! Between the factory high idle, winter fronts and Jacobs the truck will warm up to operating temps in ten to fifteen minutes even at -20*! The kids on the block unplugged my truck on one of these mornings and the truck started at -27*!!! WoW what a vehicle!!!
akdiesel,
Contact Alaska Tent & Tarp in Anchorage, and they can sell you a winterfront that covers the radiator. It attaches under the hood and not on the front of your grill. It has a zipper for those rare warmer days and can't really be seen from the outside of the vehicle. If you do a search, I posted all the info including phone numbers and cost...I'm not related to them nor do I get a dime for this as much as just a very happy customer with a very good quality product.
Good luck!!

The VMAC guy I talked to (topnotch fellow I might add) said that they didn't have a 6 shooter to develop one with, only an auto truck. I said I'd loan them mine if I was closer.... He said to call back in a few months or so.
I have been talking with some of the folks at this site.
They are currently working on something for the '03 and '04 models of the Dodge/Cummins and should have something fairly soon. For those of you who want high idle, I would keep them in mind. I know about them because just about every emergency vehicle I've ever driven has their voltage monitor units in them. Their stuff has always worked well.
