Better mpg chip on 5.9L

I have a 2007 2500 QC 4x4 with 5.9L. I want to get a chip that will get me a little more power towing, and better gas mileage. I also commute in the truck, so I want better daily mileage also. So far everyone has recommneded the mad electronics smarty and the Quadzilla XZT. I dont really want to spend a ton of money so I am leaning towards the xzt. So I was looking for some more input on it before I buy it. So far everyone says when you install just the module it goes in on the 65hp setting. They all said it seemed to be ok on the trans and the egt temps seem to stay low with it (1250 degrees max). I will be towing about 6500lbs max normally when I tow. I found the xzt for $242 new, so I know thats a pretty good deal. Any info is appreciated. I guess if the xzt is uninstalled it also does not leave a ecm footprint in the truck.

WElcome to the DTR

The smarty with the new Beta programming has trucks that normally get 16mpg bumped up to 21mpg in some cases it would pay for itsself with fuel prices the way they are. Although Quad makes a great product as well. both have great customer service and are constantly on this site helping folks with their products Both are also available in the DTR shop

BUT the problem still is... we hear all those wonderful pie in the sky stories about how beautiful the new Beta Smarty is... and we have no info on when --or even if-- it is going to be released to us po' folks.

Whatever you buy, call the DTR store! Lary has been great to deal with, and from what I've been seeing, if the DTR store doesn't sell it, you DON"T need it !!! LOL

Just in case anyone searches (which is rare around here...) let's get this straight: the XZT is NOT a rebadged Puck. And, the Puck does not give you any better mileage. It just throws the overhead off.

I researched boxes before I bought the xzt. The puck is just a pressure box and has no boost fooling. The xzt does pressure, timing and some duration and boost fooling (only usefull on 04.5's and up). The xzt gives a nice boost in low end power - I can spin my tires from stops and even rolling along at 30 and punching it. Towing with it is the best thing though as it makes it much easier to get the loads moving. Also i am getting about 60 miles per tank better mileage. The overhead reads higher but it's still close to hand calculated if you don't vary your throttle much during a run.

I put my old predator tripple play box (model 2021) in my dads new 07 qc,sb,4x4 And he is getting 21-23 mpg on the highway. From my experiance with that box on 3 5.9's its awesome at obtaining great mileage. It is a press. box and is adj. from stock, 50, 100 hp levels..
