Anyone with Superchips please chime in !!!

What setting do you leave your programmer on? I'm looking at getting the superchips flashpaq. I do alot of highway driving and just want something that is there when I want it to be and that will also increase my MPG a little too. I read that it has 2 settings, tow and performance. Can you set it to performance and leave it on that? How much HP does performance add?
Feel free to add any other info .

I leave it on performance all the time unless I tow a trailer. Runs great and with stock tires and wheels I got 2.2 mpg better on performance setting but not sure on tow mode. If you have an automatic just don't drive it like you stole it or you will doin an upgrade soon. It doesn't hurt to use it every now and then. Just don't put it to the floor everywhere you go and you'll be fine.

I just returned mine today before the 30 day window was up. Go to their own website for the Flashpaq and read the problems they are having. My truck would surge continuously whether I was in the performance or the tow, it was just much more severe on the performance setting. Other than the surging, I really liked the box.... however, I like my new Triple Dog much better, plus it gives me the high idle feature, lets me run my fog lights while my high beams are on, and many other features, and the low end torq feature takes some getting used to, but its throttle response to the max if you have an auto. I would read the cummins forum on their own Flashpaq site before you make a decision.

i had a SC and it makes good power. i had great luck w/ it. no surging or anything like that. i only had the problem with it not doing what i was advertised to do. ie raise speed limiter and rpm limiter along w/ not having a extreme tune for it. i have since returned it and will be getting a smarty. if your just wanting something thatll help mpg, its good for you. i have an egt gauge so i would tow in performance mode since it takes a little while to change them. i had no ill effects. good luck w/ your choice. also look on ebay for them around 370ish

I have only run in tow mode untill about 2 weeks ago. Wasn't seeing much difference in mileage under same driving conditions and hand calculated. Man it throws your overhead way off it said 23.9 and hand calculated driving 79 down the interstate it was more like 15.79. So I had a long trip planned this past weekend(same trip I hand calculated last time) so I put it on performance here is what I noticed. Man the power is awesome but I am scared for my tranny . power a side mileage was about the same cant remember for sure what I was getting without the SC. But no problems with the SC so far 5k miles other than I dont like my egts they run high. So dont run without gauges in performance

I have had no problems with my SC. I have been running it for over 30k. I always run it on performance. I purchased the life time oil change from the dealer (won't do that again), so I un-load and re-load the program about every 6 six weeks for the change. Again never had a problem. I saw about a 2 mile gain in fuel mileage when I first put it on. I talked to SC about the extreme setting. They said they have it, but it was making too much power for the average consumer and was killing trannys. They didn't want the average consumer having problems, but I agree that they shouldn't be advertising it as a option. I based my purchased on the tire size programming. Most don't offer that or it is on a seperate gauge.

I have my superchip presently, and it seems to be a good, safe, kick in the pants for your mostly stock CTD. I am purchasing a smarty this week however, and will be selling my SC after the extreme comes out just because of the higher HP ceiling that the smarty offers.

I have the SC and I love it. I have noticed no problems. On perfromance it feels like you added a turbo to a non-turbo motor. Though there have been no problems with the tuner, my stock clutch, would not even hold the power in the high gears. On the fwy, in 6th gear, when boost hit, it would just rev up until i relesed the pedal. So I put in a strong clutch. It is great. It does smoke quite a bit on mine. A friend who sold it to me has one on a 2003, and his dies not smoke.

FYI

If you value your warranty then forget the Flashpaq!!!

It doesn't save or restore the key cycle count value in the ECM after a flash/restore, and possibly other parameters. The parameter gets zeroed out, which will set off red flags at any dealership looking for a reason to void your warranty.

Take this for what it is worth, but I was at a diesel truck show in Denver during the summer. SC had a booth. I talked to the rep for a while, he said that what the dealer can see is things outside of the stock perimeters. For example boost higher than stock or fuel pressure higher than stock, etc. The computer only retains the most current data and drops the oldest. He stated that if you put the truck back to stock about 24 hours prior to going to the dealer you would have enough data to drop out the old stuff that contained the higher readings. Now I don't usually do that. I just download right before I go in for the oil change so that they don't accidently erase my program, but if I had a problem I would take his advice and download earlier.

I've had it few a few months now and love it. No problems whatsoever. Mileage is up a little, and it even smoothed out the motor a little bit.
