315's

How many miles can you get with a set of BFG 315/70/R17's"?

Does the ply matter? 6,8,10?

I want to keep my factory 17inch rims but would like another tire any suggestions?

Toyo offers a 35 in a load range E that I hear will fit on stock rims.

I am currently approaching 30k on mine and have pretty good tread depth remaining. There are a lot of discussions about rim width and how it affects tire wear, ditto for tire pressure(s). Search the forums if you want to do some research on how others are fairing. My personal experience thus far has been great, and I won't put anything but another set of BFG A/T's on when these wear down. I daily drive and tow heavy with mine, not too much off-roading, and couldn't be happier.

I've got over 30,000 miles on mine and I still have about .4" of tread left. It's more than I expected and once they are close to bald I will also get another set. They are a great all around tire....

The 315 is not a good on road or off road tire IMO, it is OK for both. If you work your truck off road it will not hold up, chunks of the tire will start missing. I might be able to get 30,000 out of mine and will not ever buy another set. I think the reason for the 315's popularity is because it is so cheap in comparison to better tires, it's a hummer take off, it is a cheap factory truck tire. Show me another bfg a/t that doesn't have white letters on one size, theres not to many.

tcr...I have to disagree with you. I have never had a quieter and longer lasting tire...that actually HAD TRACTION than a BFG AT. If properly aired, rotated, and not abused on pavement (sharp fast turns...ie cranking the wheel from a stop and gunning it....50 mph u turns...etc). I have ALWAYS got 50k or more on mine. I have a set on my old Ford right now that has 60k and still have not worn through the sipes. They are not MT's...and they are not Highway ribs....they ARE inbetween...exactely what most people need.

I respectfully disagree as well...the 315 BFG's that I have now and have had in the past have all lasted and performed well, and when it's time I will buy another set of the same.

I have worn out 2 sets in under 36k each set. They do chunk out if you drive a lot of gravel mountain roads. They are hard to keep balanced if you drive the gravel a lot. They do get good traction I will have to give them that. If you truck stays on the pavement and you do not spin you tires you might get the kind of mileage everyone else talks about. My truck is driven hard and spends a lot of time off road hunting and such and mine just haven't lasted as long.

on my second set of bfg a/t's....no complaints...have got great mileage with them and they perform well on and off road...not wuite sure what people are doing to "chunk" their tires...but i'm hard on all my vehicles..on and off road..and have never seen this problem..

Hilly gravel/dirt roads with hard sharp rocks= cut tires which leads to chunked tires. Maybe if you go slowly they will last better. I very rarely go slow anywhere.

I bet your truck goes slower than mine...

I feel that you are killing them on the pavement...not off. I have never had more than one or two minor "chunks" ever. Three sets of AT's, two different trucks, and 150k.

What tire do you prefer that has similar traction, ride, mileage, and noise levels as the AT?

A very hard, tractionless, noisey tire will outlast the AT...but who would want that?

My truck is a truck, not a dragster, I am off road alot, I have had the tread separate on one, I have had three diff tires loose a chunk in the exact same lug area all the way around the tire, and I can't seem to get better than 30,000 miles on 2 diff sets. I am comparing to experience I have had w/ many diff brands of mud tires and a/t's. Procomp A/T is far superior as far as wear/durability and traction is about the same IMO. There is no reason why a m/t should get more milage on these trucks, but in my experience they do. I have also found the mastercraft c/t to be a better tire (A/T), they are just over priced. Toyo also makes a not as agressive A/T, but a better wearing tire then the bfg. I am basing my comparisons on about 40 different 3/4 to 1 ton trucks and vans my company owns, and yes there are different driving habits across the board.

And by the way our 7.3 powerstrokes are killing these tires worse than the ctd's.

The Ford's kill the tire more because of there front axle alignment. Outside edges?

ProComps makes a very good tire as well. AT and MT. Glad you found a solution for your needs.

BTW..my truck is a truck too! It just drives like a dragster. Look at my pics...

Mine were only $115.00 each when I bought them so yes they were cheap and that's why I got them. I actually wanted 285s but they were almost $200.00 each at the time. Now the 315s are $200.00 each so I am only gonna be looking for 3 since my spare hasn't ever been used. Either that or I will find a used set somewhere.....
