Re:Thinking about some 315 BFG AT's
;D Oh yeah, Phil. ;D

I'm no brand junky - I just really like the BFG ATs for a few reasons. 8)

Unloaded, I run mine at about 37 PSI front and 31 PSI rear to get a "normal" footprint when unloaded. It's significantly softened my ride going to the BFGs. And, I keep the old set in the bed - takes the edge off the ride a bit more and gives me some ballast for the snow.

Before I took off the stock tires, I would chirp the rear tires in tight turns on dry pavement. And, on wet pavement I would break at least one of the rear tires loose in the same situation. Not so with the BFGs. I can break 'em loose if I want to - but they do so at a much higher point.

We've had a mild Winter - so I've only driven the truck twice in snow bad enough to need 4x4 engaged. The BFG ATs are much better than the stockers in snow.

Best to y'all
Bill
Utah can you run the 315's without the lift kit...I have heard some folks doing just that but will it rub? And if it rubs where will it rub...Thanks

;D Man, there's a bunch of room in the wheelwells of these trucks. ;D

I ran my truck for about a week with the new tires and no leveling kit - no problems. But, I went with the lift 'cause:

1) I wanted more of a 4x4 look, and
2) I wanted the peace of mind knowing I've got plenty of clearance when stuffed and twisted (full articulation) when off-roading. Moab - here I come!

Best to y'all
Bill

Utah,

Did you (or can you) put those 315 BFGs on the stock rims or do you have to get some wider rims?

F11Engineer

Hey F11. ;D
The 8-inch stock rim is just right for that size tire (8-10 inch rims are recommended). 8)
I've gone with a 10" rim on a previous HD CTD Ram and that extra width is added to the outside - which makes the wheel/tire describe a larger arc as it turns. That larger arc brings the tire pretty close to the rear edge of the front wheelwell in a tight turn. I'm sticking with the 8" rim this time to avoid that.
The pic below (taken to show my mudflaps) shows no undue bulging with the 315's on my 8" rims.

I also have the BFG 315's on my truck with the stock rims and no lift. They fit perfect and look awesome! Here is a couple pics.

I get rubbing on the lower control arm (or is it upper I forget) on a full lock with slight compression both left and right sides. The rub mark is about 3/4 the size of a dime. No leveling kit, stock suspension and stock wheels.
