do 6.7's have turbo problems?????

I see a lot of used turbo's for 6.7's on ebay for sale. Is there a lot of them going bad and replaced under warranty or whats up? Doesn't seem to be old or used enough to be replaced.

no real problem with the turbos, just with the emissions system causing the turbos to heavily soot. at first the dealers were just replacing them, now they clean them once or twice before replacement. those are great deals out there on the used ones. you can get them with as little as a few thousand miles on them, clean them up, and have basically a new turbo. i've been thinking of picking one up just to have an extra on the shelf.

I'm gonna do the same but I'm not gonna give a whole lot of money to someone who basically pulled a few sooted up turbos out of the trash and is trying to make a bunch of money selling them. Now, if one of these guys would do a thorough cleaning before selling them then that would be worth a lot more. If you look closely on e-bay almost every 6.7 turbo is being sold by the same guy....

My 6.7 is waiting for the dealer to call for turbo cleaning. They got 2 kits in but need 3 to complete the cleaning. I have less than 6K miles

Trucks that are mostly driven in go and stop traffic or in town are having the most problems. Excessive idling causing turbo to soot up and set a code P2262. Sometimes turbo cleaning will work, but unless truck is driven with exhaust brake on the turbo will soot up again fast.

Question Turbo Soot Fix

My dealer just upgraded my 6.7 after two de-soot's in the last 1000 miles, new O2 sensers, wiring plus a new flash (VER. 8-Q). Will see if that works!

2008.5 6.7 (3200 miles) Ram 2500 quad cab in north Texas.

The turbo has never been touched on mine. 162,500+ miles on it, but it has been worked since day one. Now, I'm not worrying about soot.

Is it true that the cab & Chassis do not have the same exhaust system as the pick ups ? I think I read that the NOx trap was different ?
anyone know ?
thanks

The cab and chassis emissions setup is entirely different than the pickup models. 2007 emissions vs 2010 emissions. Cab and chassis models do not have the NOx filter in the down pipe from the turbo.

turbo replaced at 26k

Mine was replaced and is a work truck. The turbo was making a weird whaling sound and would loose power, but then pick back up again like nothing happend. It would rarely even throw a code. I argued with the dealership because 99% of the time the power was great, they insisted it was the turbo and changed it out and the problem went away. I'm a roofing contractor and tow 2 different trailers of 14 and 16 gvwr. They told me there was a bad batch of turbo's. The kicker is i recently bought another 6.7 however it's a 2500 but has the same manufacturer date of August 07. So i'm anxious to see if the turbo goes on this one aswell..
