Powertrain Warranty Question

Bought an 03 Ram 3500 from an AZ dealer, truck seemed to be in decent condition. Part of the sales contract was a 30day/3K mile "Powertrain Warranty" wherein the dealer would cover 100% parts and labor. Drove truck back to colder climes of the southern Rockies, where it will not start. Towed to reputable independent garage, they say injectors are the problem. Dealer states that injectors are not part of the powertrain...everything I have read says they are. I need a definitive source so I can effectively battle the *******...what say you?

Is there fine print in the warranty that says that injectors are not covered. At the shop I work at I make sure to read all the fine print on the "extended" warranties before we start work.

Is it through the dealer or a independent warranty dealer?

Warranty Defined

Thanks for the reply. What I have is the Buyer's Guide from the dealer with the "Warranty" block checked, then under "Systems Covered" it states "Powertrain Only" and the duration is "30 days, 3000 miles whichever comes first". The injector issue arose the day after I bought it with just under 500 miles driven.

It must state that in your copy of the contract, if not they are just blowing smoke. I would give them one last chance if not just turn it over to your lawyer. They usually always settle out of court. Keep all your receipts for rental car, hotel, food, while your truck was in shop getting fixed.

Well if there is no fine print that excludes the injectors then it should be covered IMHO

The engine and its parts are part of the power train.

I am assuming that this warranty has nothing at all to do with Chrysler. Many used car dealers (and even Dodge dealers) will purchase an extended warranty from an aftermarket company, to offer with a used vehicle they sell. This is simply to protect themselves from having to eat any surprise repairs that were hidden when they took the vehicle in on trade (or otherwise purchased it.)

There is usually paperwork and a booklet that comes with the warranty that tells you which warranty package you have, a list of what is covered, what is not covered, how long the warranty is in effect, and how to claim. There may be a website you can look at for further clarification, or a help line you can call. The dealer you bought from may be out of the picture completely at this point, and the warranty company may give you a list of their approved repair locations. Sometimes they are fine with the repair being carried out at any legitimate repair shop, but you'll have to find out from them.

Thanks to all for your input; it validates my train of thought. Whatever happened to customer centricity or doing what is "right"? Dealers shouldn't get a pass when it comes to ethical business practices, but then again if they all did what was right, we would have to come up with a joke genre other than "used car salesman"

If they offer as part of a sale they should have to honor it, and it may be required of the by state regulations but either way hold them to it. You paid your money and deserve what you were offered.
