Noise in transmission HELP!!!
Hey guys,
I have a new noise in my transmission. It's not a high speed click click click like a universal it's more like a low speed clunck clunck. I only hear it in 6th gear. It happens even when the back tires are off the ground on jack stands. I have heard about 5 speeds having problems with a nut backing off or something but I don't remember anything about 6 speeds having problems.
Any help or input would sure be appreciated!
Thanks,
Topper

Well I have a new clunk clunk as well and I could have swore it was in the tranny. I then thought it was a u joint but all of them check out fine. So I said the heck with it and run till it breaks. Then I started to get weird vibration so I went back to hunting the problem. Here is what I found out: it turns out to be the back drive shaft where it splines into the front drive shaft. You can hold the front one tight and in a bind and the back one will turn and twist inside the other one. When I gas it hard or suddenly back off the pedal it will clunk! Hope this helps!!

Thanks guys,
I will check over the drive shaft but it seems like it's only there when I'm in high gear. I guess I'll pull the drive shaft and then try it again. Does anyone know if the 6sp tranies had any trouble like the 5sp tranies did?
Thanks,

Well guys,
I figured out what the noise was... NOT GOOD!!! I took the covers off the sides of the transmission and found a couple of gears with a tooth or 2 gone. I cleaned up the inside the best I could and ran a magnet in all the places I could and pulled out some scrap metal. Well I put it back together and refilled it. I took it for a test drive and the noise got real bad once I hit high gear. Yep this thing is toast. Anyone know a place that sells NV5600's??? Looks like it's time to open up the wallet.
Thanks for the replys guys. I wish you guys were right on this one.

If you are able to do the work yourself, I searched the internet for nv5600 parts. I found the following website that may have the parts you are looking for:
http://www.drivetrain.com/NV56000parts.htm
Otherwise, on ebay, they are asking upwards of $3000
