Thanks Fish for confirming that. I sort of thought so just had never noticed them before. Makes sense.

Reelay, I squeezed a couple of times but no indications of any entering. Just hoped a little did get in there. May look for a better needle I just couldn't tell with the junkie one I had. I like the tips with the rubber but couldn't find one long and thin enough.

Got my needle fitting at a local parts house it reminds me of a basketball needle about 1 1/2 inches long. I had a rubber tipped one but it was too flexible to hold the little check ball down. You probably got some in there just not enough to purge thru. Somes better than none.

OK. Real stupid question. Does the joint spin all of the time or only when it is in 4WD? If it doesn't spin all of the time I can't see why it would need to lubed every time I fall out of bed (or every 7500 miles).

Inquiring minds want to know...

The front shaft turns all the time by way of thr front ring and pinion. Unless you have spin free hubs on it

But the shaft has little load on it when turning, right? I am at 105,000 and have never seen it or lubed it. Not sure what to do. I have asked at 4 different dealers in 2 countries when in for service and have been told each time that I am an idiot, there is no fitting. Have not tried to find it.

Maybe my loacal dealer is doing it?? Ha ha. My early experience with u joints is that adding grease through a fitting does little to help them. Particularly if they are dried out a little. The grease just seems to flow through the wet areas and misses where it is needed alltogether.

If your truck is 2006 and newer 4x4 the front drive shaft needs to be greased and has what some call a fish eye lube spot. Also you should have a sticker from the factory about it under the hood, mine is on the radiator crawl.

That is NOT a Dodge design, it is standard for all double cardan units. It does need to be lubed or it will eventually fail causing your front drive line to vibrate badly! What you are greasing is actually a centering pin that keeps the two ujoints in the proper alignement with each other. Greasing that location does not grease the two ujoints...only the centering pin.
