Loose Bajo Bolts

After picking up my truck from my servicing dealer and driving about 295 miles home. The truck was running rough and knocking. Upon inspection, I noticed the 2 banjo bolts loose.
I tightened them up and the truck in still idling rough, blowing black smoke on start up , and very loud knocking noise at the front of the engine.

My question is what damage is done?
What needs to be fixed.

The dealership is sending a truck and trailer over to pick it up and deliver a loaner.
No problems there.
My concern is engine damage?

Thanks Boris

What does the oil look like? Sounds like it could be a bad injector? Hard to say......need more info. Oil level? Smell like diesel? Where is the knock coming from? Up top? Bottom end?

Oil looks normal slightly low 1/2 quart maybe. No diesel smell that I can smell.
Knocking sound seems to be coming from the front top of engine.

The banjo bolts were only finger tight. My concern is with the bolts that loose, would the injector pump be sucking in air. And what damage will be done as a result of air being introduced through the bolts?

Thanks Boris

Won't cause any major damage, I wouldn't think. What work had been done recently, that the banjo bolts could have been off?

Dealership replaced injector pump due to "leaking from check ball"

as per my invoice.

Wonder if they forgot to tighten up the CP3 gear as well? Man.......I always test drive my repairs to help crud like that from happening!

On the driver's side front of the engine, there is a plastic plug. Remove that and check the nut on the CP3 gear to make sure it is tight. If it isn;t, I'd request a new pump. Hard to tell if there was any damage to the pump or the pump shaft if it were left loose. Beyond that.......hard to tell.
