I have access to a full car lift and a transmission jack. Can I install a new clutch on my own? Is it hard to do? I've never put a clutch in anything but a motorcycle.

I'm not a moron and can follow directions. I have some mechanical ability, but I'm far from a professional. I've installed superchargers/intercoolers, done brake jobs, etc.

What do you guys think? Is it worth the extra money to have someone else install it? Thanks.

i think it is something someone who is mechanically inclined can do suscessfully, but having someone there to give you a hand will be a great asset [and for safety] as the transmission and transfercase weigh close to 500lbs as a combo. i don't know if splitting the t-case from the trans is something that normally gets done when the pro clutch gues change clutches out, but i think when i get to changing mine out, it will drop as a combo

I did my own, shouldn't be much difference between the years. I would highly recommend splitting the Tranny and transfer case. Together they are extremly heavy and unbalanced. When it comes loose of the truck you would be lucky to keep the jack upright. I took mine out split and tried to put it back in as one peice. Broke the tranny jack and darn near myself before I realized the error of my ways. A second set of hands is a must for this job. While it's out change the throwout bearings and all the seals while your in there. I made that mistake to and had to take it back out again a few thousand miles later to change the throw out bearing. It's not a fun project but it is do-able.

the dodgedieseldatabase.com has a pretty good write up on how to change a clutch. You will have to look through the maintenance section and look at replacement I think. Good luck.

You'll save about 350-400 bucks doing it yourself.

Just be careful, because that tranny is HEAVY!
