How much oil is lost when changing a turbo?

I went by the dealer to see if an oil change came included with turbo replacement. They looked it up and NO, does not. The book says to TOP OFF any lost oil while doing the change. I guarentee you they do not carry the oil I use to top it off with and I don't like running an oil MIXTURE. I guess I will just change it as soon as they get the turbo done. UNLESS, you don't lose any/much. SO how much is typically lost during this process? Thanks!

If you read another thread on this same forum, the dealer is changing out my turbo because I lost the Internal seals ay 40,000 miles. Well, they haven't 100% gone, but I have seepage out the BACK of the turbo and my intercooler hose is moist with oil. They are replacing it Tuesday. I will just do an oil change as soon as I drive it home from the dealer on Tuesday. Your right, just in case they got anything in there.

When I upgraded my turbo I changed the oil after I did the swap. It was time anyway and won't hurt if you do.

When my Turbo went out the dealer changed the oil, oil filter and fuel filter for free. Maybe they did it because the bearings went south in the Turbo and started to come apart.

Replacing a turbo because of bearing failure is different then replacing one for soot or external seal leakage.Won't lose but a very small amount of oil.hats why warranty pays for oil/filter on some warranty ops and other ops they don't.Its a common sense thing.

When I installed a new turbo instructions suggested to do an oil change at the same time. Best not to put contaiminated oil through your new turbo for what its worth.

I thought I missed the joke... you shouldn't lose more than a few drops of oil on a turbo swap

Roperteacher: They did not change the oil for me either. They should have just to even things up for me having to wait many weeks for the new (to me) turbo to show up. Speaking of which, did you get a new turbo or a rebuilt?

I'm assuming his truck is a 6.7... either way, it would have been replaced with a new unit
