High Idle Options?
I was wondering what is new with the 3G engines. The "old" 24V had the cold idle flash to the computers but I was wondering if the new ISBE has some electronic high idle you could control.
The Duramax has high idle once you install a wire to the ECM and is controled throught the cruise control. Has anyone tried/found out about one for the ISBE in the Dodge?..
Inquiring minds.. 8)

Re:High Idle Options?
I've been looking for a 3G electronic version for a year now. I wish DC offered one like Ford does with their AIC.
Til then, the stick works.
I think you can still get the cold weather enable turned on in the ECM, but thats only to help it warm up faster in cold weather. I want to be able to idle it up whenever, wherever I am.
On edit: yeah, mine already does the 1000 rpm fast idle when its really cold (comes from the factory like that), I was thinking about the 3 cylinder mode when talking about the cold weather enable.

Yup, mine kicks itself up to 1000 RPM if it's too cold outside during warm up, or when left idling for long periods of time in cold weather. I don't know about any aftermarket high-idle kits yet, but I'm sure a guy could easily rig up a bike cable or somthing similar to make a hand throttle like those used frequently on Jeeps. My Jeep's got one ;D

Did you have them program it that way, or does it do that automatically?

Re:High Idle Options?
I believe it does it automatically, as I have not had anyone touch it? Maybe they have different programs depending on the location/destination of the truck? I know on gassers, some include a "high altitude" package which changes timing and such. You'll see it offered on vehicles sold in Denver and similar areas.
If memory serves, the owner's manual discussed this feature and why it happens (low combustion chamber temps are detrimental to diesels), but that may have been on my old '01 so don't take that to the bank...

Thats MR Hoss to you buddy!
Re:High Idle Options?
I believe it does it automatically....and only if certain conditions are met (no throttle, temps below a certain degree, etc.).

Re:High Idle Options?
So what I am hearing is that the high idle is automated just like the Fords.. Leave it alone and it will go to 1000 Rpm.
I really thought the industrial roots of the Cummins would slip into the ECM for some manual control for once. :-
Mechanical pumps rule..

My truck ramped up to 1,000 rpm today while it was sitting and idling.
Once it gets cold enough I will see if it does the 3 cyl shutdown for warm up. Its supposed to be in the program.

Re:High Idle Options?
Scotty what is the temp cutoff for the 3 cyl idle? Mine was run in -30 last year and did not do the 3 cyl idle. (temps changed to Canadian Celsius ;D) It did ramp up to 1000 tho...

Re:High Idle Options?
Good question.
Mine has not done it yet...I hope it never does. :'(
It might have to have a VERY cold block not plugged in at all for that to work.
I don't want to find out. ;D
