Fuel pump leaking! Options?

My fuel pump in the fuel tank is leaking where the green o'ring is and around the plastic fittings where fuel lines connect on top of tank. I could replace the pump for 220.00 + 100.00 to clean fuel tank. Recommended cleaning of tank when replacing pump.

Now, I am wondering what my options are without compromising my injection pump etc so adequate fuel supply and pressure are provided. I really want to get away from the plastic crap that these fuel pumps have. Also, I really didn't want to spend the money on the Airdog or Fass systems right now. Any suggestions would be appreciated!

P.S.

Still on original injection pump and injectors with 278,000 miles on them. I have been fortunate.

Yes, I am seeing that now. I have searched the net for ideas but came up dry. Thanks for chiming in.

I know it's been posted in the 2nd gen section (and maybe a little in the 3rd gen section) about adding a Holley inline fuel pump down on the frame rail and going through a filter system there. Might try looking that up....maybe worth a shot.

Guys, thanks for the feedback. I am going to just pull the fuel pump in tank and replace it with original. Be easier than modifying something right now.

there not a terribly bad pump.

on the 2 generation of you lose fuel pressure you lose a $1000 injection pump, the fass and dogs are much more important on them years.

at least on the 3rd gen you lose fuel pressure it just dont run and dont kill anything. that is why i moved up to a 03, i thought that was a good idea unitl i had a injector problem.

I agree. They have put a lot of safeguards in the 3rd gens. What went wrong with the injector?

it wouldn't start last Wednesday, had the FCA code, put in a new FCA and it wouldn't start Friday. every thing i read leads me to injectors.

took them out last Saturday and had them checked for leakage, 1 bad, 2 borderline.

there done, i just have to pick them up and put them in tomorrow and see what happens.

i think i like my VP engine better now, injectors $250 for a set, my 03 $213 each (cash money no recipt deal)

Are you replacing all the injectors or just the bad ones? I was told it's better to replace all of them when some go bad. I questioned that because if the others are working, why replace them? Keep me posted bud. have a good weekend.

he actually traded me my set for another matched set that all test good. so i got out of this cheap for now.

I'm going to buy 1 new one every 3 months, when i have 6 new I'm going to change them again.

it was snowing here these past few days and i couldn't get out to go pick them up due to my job, i have to stay near all the equipment i case there's a problem.

i put in 2 fuel pressure gauges yesterday, lift pump and rail pressure, so if it dont start again i will have a clue on what's going on.

there was no place to put them, my pillar post has a handle, didn't like any other option i found, so i put them in the little pocket it didn't use. if i want to put it back to the way it was the pocket is held in with 4 screws and i can replace it cheap. i had to drill some holes in it for the wires and to secure the mount plate i made.

Autometer rail pressure that matches the Dodge instruments, it hooks up to the engines sensor for its signal, i had a Ispro fuel pressure gauge.
