Fuel Filters replacement?

Dodge 5.9 diesel Cummins motor.

Per Dodge recommendation fuel filters are supposed to be replaced every 10,000 miles driven. How critical is this? Thoughts?

Also, does any know if there is more than 1 fuel filter for the 2005 Dodge 5.9 diesel Cummins motor? To my knowledge there is only one on the truck.

Just the one that is in the canister on the fire wall. I change mine every oil change (9k miles) I am starting to use the Baldwin PF7977 because it is a 5mic filter unke the stuff you get at the auto parts store.

Okay cool. I notice that if I wait much more thank 10K my MPG gets bad quickly. I usually just buy one from the Dodge dealer.

The Baldwin is better than the OE filter. Another option is the Fleetgaur filter. It is only 7 mic but it's also better than the OE which is 10 mic.

What does the MIC mean? I assuming that the Baldwin PF7977 will fit my 2005 5.9 cummins motor?

Micron... It is a unit of measurement of how small of a partical it will filter... The smaller the number the better filtration it has. But keep in mind you want the Absolute number. Some filters will say 7 mic but thats nominal, in actuality they are like 10mic absolute.

Yes the Baldwin is a direct swap for the stock filter canister that is bolted to the firewall.

If you have a Grainger locally to you, they carry all the Baldwin filters...

Here are all the ones for your truck:

Lube BT7349
Air PA4162
Fuel PF7977
Transmission Filter 18055 (This is nothing more than an OE filter in a Baldwin box)

Thanks for the information. Very helpful. After searching the part number the price for the filter seems way better than the price for an OEM filter.

If yo don't put that many miles on your truck then you should at least change the filter 2 times a year. Before and after the winter months, if nothing else to help with the crappy fuel they swicht to for winter.

OTR trucks and commercial equipment spec fuel filter changes based on either pressure or vacuum in the fuel supply, depending how it's designed.
