Exhaust advice needed

I want to reduce the exhaust noise in my 2003 Dodge without creating too much back pressure. Currently, I am straight piped. I thought the exhaust was supposed to be 3.5 inch from the engine to the muffler and 4 inches from the muffler down stream. Mine measures 3.75 inches outside diameter all the way through. I was thinking of installing a 51 inch Donaldson Muffler which is 10 inches in diameter with 5 inch diameter ends which I have read works well. It appears I don't have room for the muffer installation without custom bending some of the pipe. Has anyone out there done a similar installation? I have searched the treads but still am confused.

If you want it quiter, you got to muzzle it. At least try a resonator back in system
Add some more sound deaden material to floor and back of cab.

Yep- I put a 51" Nelson on an 03. No new bends. The exhaust exits a slight bit further back. It looks great, and less soot on the fender. Nice mellow tone, and not much louder than stock. No restrictions.

Thanks for the advice. I will go with the 51" Nelson. I guess it is time to learn to use my son's wire feed welder and set my stick welder aside.
