Cold weather, auto trans question. Warmup?

Asking for a buddy that has a new 6.7/68RFE. Said that when cold, he lets it warm up for about 5min (10-30 deg F ambient) and takes off. Truck will run up to 2500-2600 rpms, like it's not shifting into 6th until maybe 5 miles down the highway then it upshifts 1 more time and rpms drop.
This sounds like the Alli trans that won't lock the t/c until the trans warms up a bit to speed up warmup.
Is this the same, just not locking the t/c, or does it stay in 5th until warmed up?

If the auto trannies in the new trucks are the same as in the old, the transmission fluid doesn't warm up as it does not circulate when in park. Must be in neutral for fluid to circulate and warm up during engine warm-up.

Wrong forum, should've been in the 6.7 section.

x2. I always put mine in neutral right after I crank it.

The new trannies flow fluid in park. No need for neutral. Sounds normal to me. Trans just wanting to be warm.

There all 4 speed automatics, it depends on the designation of the engine whether it's the older 47re or the improved 48re. If your engine is the HO version, not to be confused with the HO 325hp version in the 04.5's, then it is a 48re.
