Man this is a disapointment. so Dodge is going to screw us.. Im a 16yr mechanic on bikes and i think ....... the vib is comming from the crank and is being aplifyed through the drive shaft.. i have a 2004 with 35000miles 25000 hard towing 10000lb trailer . my truck starts the vib now at 58 to 70mph and it shakes the change and everything else in the truck. its not a little vib its realy bad. Im going to today remove the rear drive shaft and drive it then im goin to remove the front. I realy beveive its the crank. ill let you know.

Maybe someone can help me out here, I have an 05 with 6000 miles on it. I do not notice any vibe while driving loaded or unloaded. However, when I pull my 7000# trailer at 70 mph I start to get a drone, like a waaaah, waaaaah, waaaaah, type of harmonic drone, not very loud and I cant feel it in the seat, but it drives me nuts on the freeway. When I let off the throttle, it goes away. when I load it up again, there it is from about 70 to 80 mph. Is this how the dreaded vibe starts to appear? Anyone? Anyone? Bueller?

I would agree that it's the crank but with my '03 it would do it with the motor off at 67mph. The 5th wheel didn't make it better or worse but when we towed a Chevy on a U-haul auto transporter from Georgia to Florida, it was way worse at that speed regardless of load or no load on the motor.

I never took the drive shaft off ... because it was cold ..and i didnt fell like draining the transfer case so the oil would'nt coat the bottom of the truck.. dodge is looking at the truck monday.. ill let them do what ever there going to do. I let you all know what they say. And none of the dodge dealers here in winston-salem NC know anthing about new drive shafts.I did the 70mph test with the motor off and in nuteral .. the vib was gone.. only there when your driving it.

If yours was smooth with the motor off and the tranny in neutral, I would think that would mean yours is motor and not drive line. It was smooth with both drive shafts in place at 65-70mph. Both are spinning the same rpm with or without the motor running. I think yours is a different vibration than mine was. Mine had a normal engine buzz at 2100rpm. All four of my Dodge Cummins trucks had the 2100rpm engine buzz. I wish that's all my '03 had.

On the way to southern NC on I77 there is a 7 mile hill.
at 80 mph I took my CTD out of gear, low RPM (700-800). I still had the vibration and it was much stronger than when in gear at 70+ mph.
Also the vibration could still be felt down to 55 - 60 mph.

What does this say about the drive shaft fix?

I had always been told the waaah waaah waah was bad driveshaft angels or out of balance. And I've had that problem in my Jeeps, but it actually turned out to be the exhaust because I changed that and the waah waah waah went away. So this probably doesnt help any but just another thing to consider I guess.

Drive shaft is still turning even though you are in nuetral , And just from past experiences I dont think the drive shafts are the problem. I find it hard to believe the guy doing the balancing on these things screwed all these up, besides the same place that makes the 1500 shafts make these and they dont have this problem with the 1500 models.

Same with the 2500 Hemi powered Rams. Not a problem. Gotta be angles or the weight of the Cummins up front running or not. The new frame is like a tuning fork. With the Hemi you can feel the road imperfections and exhaust vibration more than you should but no driveline vibration. They should'a kept the old C channel frame. I bet if they dropped a new frame on the floor it would sound like a load of 3" ID EMT hit the floor.
