I had a lengthy conversation with a D/C engineer last Friday. They have isolated two different causes of the vibration. They have R&D parts now ready to be certified by the government. Once this happens then parts will be made and then a TSB will be following. A new aluminum driveshaft and frame weights are supposed to be the fix. He said all this should take place by the end of the year. Hopefully. Now all we have to do is wait.
Naturally the dealer is the last to know anything, most dealers dont sell enough diesels to really know anything about the trucks or what D/C is doing about the problem. The D/C engineer made note that this is a top priority for them because so many trucks are effected and being a new model truck. The governments re-certification of the vehicles, because they are changing the weight of the vehicles will take the longest. A tsb wont be out till after re-certification and parts have been made.

Man I hope this comes to be true. I've even been toying with the idea of a 2500 Hemi like my buddy drives and has no vibration at all and has more than plenty of power and gets 14mpg city/18mpg hwy compared to my 18.5mpg city/19mpg hwy. City would be rough but hwy mileage isn't worth the extra cost of the diesel. This is my fourth Dodge Cummins and may be my last. I'm puzzled why the Hemi's don't do it and the diesels do. Mine has the same vibration at 65-70mph with the motor running in drive, idling in neutral, or turned off and coasting down through the vibration speed. Both the Hemi and the diesel have a driveshaft and they're sitting in the same chassis with the same rear axle. (mine's a 10.5 AAM like the Hemi has) I hope this isn't another, "well we've done all we can do" fix...
The diesel motor is part of the cause the other is the new frame design. The frame does not torque enough or at all. He said they might have made the frame too stiff. The combination of the normal diesel vibration and a stiff frame have turned it into a tuning fork type vibration. Weights placed at points on the frame will take care of that one. And the other is the rear driveshaft wont flex, its too stiff. This is the one I think is causing the 70 mph vib. Because if you go down a long grade with the motor off you still get the vibration in the 70 mph range. He said the frame weights and the aluminum shaft has removed the vibrations in the test trucks. I hope they are not blowing smoke up my ***. Cause when it comes back out its gonna be ugly.
I asked my service department at the 5star where I bought my truck at about the vibe. The Mgr looked to the left, and then looked me dead in the eye and told me he never heard of it. I bought my wife a Mitsubishi from a Ford dealership, and the guy asked me if I had the vibe......... I told him it's a shame that Ford knows about it, but not the dealership. If the svc mgr did'nt know the fix, he could have just told me instead of looking me in the eye and lying about it. He did say to bring it and they would look at it though. Credit where credit is due I suppose.
I don't notice any unusual engine vibes but I'm glad you said the other vibe is still there even with the engine off coasting downhill through the vibration speed. That's the one that's got me all tangled up in a knot. I'm sure it's the drive shaft so hopefully that'll fix it. I'm hoping it'll help with the ringing noise at 56-60mph too. If not, man the F-250 with V-10 would be a nice truck even if it is thirsty.
