70mph Vibration
Im vibn
..but spoke to the service manager at the dealer I bought the truck from, he is fully aware of the issue, acknowledged it and knew of the pending TIB, said that they have indexed a few driveshafts and it helps some, as a temp deal until the official letter comes out, but assured me the TIB was in the works that if I can hang on until jan they will fix it or replace the truck. that does make me feel better that my dealer is aware of and knows whats going on with the whole issue
So Im going in next week for its first oil change and let them document the vibration to get on the list and let them attempt to index the driveshaft to get it thru the end of the year

So there's aluminum drive shafts on production trucks already? I wonder how many trucks have aluminum shafts and if they're the many that aren't vibrating. I noticed under a dually GM Duramax pickup today it had an aluminum drive shaft. I sure wish I had one before our trip next week. (Not the GM. The driveshaft. Well, maybe the GM.) But it looks like two freakin' years waiting for a fix isn't long enough with Dodge. I've bought alot of vehicles from Dodge. This one might be my last. Not that it's simply a driveshaft vibration but that it's taken so long to acknowledge the problem exists and the possibility of a fix. Not a fix, just more hope a fix is on the way and I haven't heard it from our dealership. They've turned their backs on us. We can do the same...
Hannibal, I fell your pain. It now has been 14 months and almost 70 thousand miles with this 40 thousand dollar viberator thats not getting me off. I will never, ever again buy the first model year change.
msatow, check your pm's. i replied
our 03 2500 had the vibe at 68mph. the dealer took out the 4x4 driveshaft and it went away. they ordered a new 4x4 driveshaft and everything worked out. 80 grand on the truck now and its running great.

I've been reading up on driveline vibrations tonight as I can't stand too much excitement.
It appears that driveshaft vibration is very common in vehicles with gear ratios over 3.55:1. Even a perfectly balanced driveshaft will develope a "whip" at high rpm. The fix has been an aluminum driveshaft for several years. I don't know why DC is playing stupid on this one. Even the new F-150 went through it and they're being fitted with aluminum driveshafts. Mustangs and LTD Interceptors are also victims of driveshaft vibration when 3.55 or higher ratios are used. Lighter vehicles can even use a carbon fiber driveshaft for smooth high speed operation.
What it amounts to is what I said several months ago on the subject. I think DC has known all along what the problem is and what the fix is. They're just trying to decide who's going to pay for it. At this point, I would pay for the cussed thing if they would just make it available. I looked for aftermarket to no avail.

So is the vibration that subtle or did you guys not test drive at highway speeds? or maybe it has gotten worse with a few miles on the clock?
This is scarring the @#$%% out of me, 1st ball joints on the 4x4's and now the vibration. I already can't afford a CTD, now there is another reason not to buy one. Oh well I'm sure I can think of some more reasons TO get one!

I stopped by the dealership this morning to present a TSB to the service writer for a gear whine that calls for replacing the driveshaft to correct. Mine has the gear whine at 58-64mph. He looked it up and it doesn't apply to my truck. Don't know why. I was hoping to back door into the aluminum shaft to cure the vibration and whine at the same time. About half the 2500 and 3500 trucks on the lot have aluminum shafts and half have steel shafts single or two piece.
He also said he spoke to their regional engineer and he hasn't heard anything about a TSB on the vibration being in the works. So it looks like Dodge has screwed me for the first time and the last. And they want me to have my vehicle serviced at their dealership when they can't even fix a simple vibration that they say mine is the only one that has it... If anything, that would mean it's not a widespread design defect and should be very easy to isolate and fix. Not like an intermittant hesitation or something hard to duplicate. I put it on jack stands, ran it up to 68mph and it does it. How hard could it be???
After this trip next week to Mississippi and back, I'll be looking for a '04 or '05 F-250 with V-10 or a GM 2500. I really liked Dodge for a couple of decades but this is the pits in customer service.

I just got an e-mail from my district Dodge engineer today. He has let me know that he has resigned from dodge and has taken a job as sales manager of our local dodge dealer. He said he wants to see me next week and has an idea for my truck. So I will see him next week to see what he has up his sleeve for me. I'm going to give dodge till after the holidays then the war breaks out here in Ohio.
Then I'll have to assume the Dodge engineer isn't a certified ASME mechanical engineer working in research and developement with DC? If he's no more than a page flipper with a big title no wonder we're not getting anywhere. To go from engineering to sales manager doesn't sound right. I'm about tired of these people blowing smoke up our tails in hopes we'll lay low until warranty runs out and we're at a loss. I've done that long enough. I've been very patient for almost two years.
I stoped buy the dealer, Good News he said they are starting to get the drive lines in but they have to be ordered. and the bad news they have to drive my truck to verify the Vib, then order the New drive line, The new drive line comes from a diffirent manafacture, so now I am on hold for 10 days waiting for the new imporoved driveline to come in.
