70mph Vibration
The vibration doesn't seem to affect all trucks. It occurs mostly with 4wd swb models. Other models such as mine are rare to have the vibe. Some have been fixed. Some have not. Mine was smooth as glass till it hit 14k miles. Don't know what happened and DC does not know what to do to fix it.
I'm happy to report that my confidence in DC for the most part has been restored. Since the truck was in for the 5th or 6th time last Wednesday, I have not had the time to spend driving it at extended highway speeds until today. The latest shim/bracket used to change the driveline angle feels like it did the job. It was one of three ordered with the new driveshaft assembly and had not been tried. The original driveline angle was used when the new ds assembly was installed and it was horrible. Literally shook my insides at 75 mph. This current bracket is much taller and drops the driveline angle down. If it stays like it is now and doesn't develope another vibration @ 65+ mph, I will remain happy. I still don't feel it is as smooth as it was when new, but it is smooth enough now that I can live with it more comfortably. It's been quite a fiasco with DC. Hopefully this will end it for me.
As for the indexing of the shafts, Im no expert on this, but based on the info I provided to the dealer, and the reps working on the truck, The way it was explained to me as in ref to my truck, With the 4x4 and both shafts turning at a high speed, they set up a harmonic vibration in conjunction with the engine and other related components, The indexing basically moves the two shafts where the harmonics are lessened by putting the shafts at a position where they counteract the minor vibrations they have thus reducing the vibration or eliminating it, If the shafts both vibrate just a little that’s not noticeable when there is only one installed, then by removing one, it reduces the vibration mils below a noticable level.
If they both vibrate just a little, and they are in sync, the vibration is multiplied. Maybe that’s why some new shaft replacements fixed some trucks and not others, when the new shaft or shafts were installed maybe the installed just got lucky and installed them in a position where the harmonics were drastically reduced???? Im not sure, but by simply moving the shaft location on the rear, mine was fixed to a level that Im satisfied with.

They are actually marked on the axle flange and the axle flange with a blue or yellow mark. Those 2 marks are supposed to line up with each other, that is the axle index position.
Spent 6 months putting those suckers on at Warren Truck in Warren Michigan.
All im saying is maybe the marks are wrong and the need to be checked.
The only way to do that is crawl under the truck, mark across the sides of both flanges with a paint marker to mark the original location. Then seperate the flanges and rotate then 1 position and go for a test ride. You have 8 possible setting, choose the best and see if it works at all. Will take you awhile but in the end if it works would be well worth it, shoot if it is under warranty see if dealer will do it.
Seen someone talking about driveshaft angles, that could be something to look at as well.

I feel for all those dodge owners who own expensive viberators,I too own one of those.I too also have one of those dealers that don`t give a rip about his customers, until the warrenty is finished. But I was wondering if anyone out there has tried a retubed driveshaft, reason I ask is that I`ve that had my driveshaft replaced(still vibes)with one off the lot .Then ,with some discussing with service manager and not getting anywhere the parts manager said that he would send it in.Sure enough it was out .05 at transfer case output. It can only be put back to .02.I talked with the driveline shop who told me that there sister shop 4+ hours away retubed 4 driveshafts for a dodge store in Medicine Hat last summer. They removed the tapered ends on the shaft, and to this day they haven`t heard back from the owners of these trucks(so they tell me).I can`t get hold of these owners to substanuate this.I can only hope that they would get back to me.Driveline shop say that there is cardboard inside these shafts, could this be part of the problem?(Nice recylcing DODGE).
Has anyone tried retubing?

I looked at the 4x4 ctd cc short box trucks sitting on the dealers lot here in the Phoenix area over the weekend. The build dates ran from Aug 04 to March of 05. All the trucks have a large vibration dampener on the transfer case imput end of the rear drive shaft. Do the earlier versions of these trucks have the dampeners also? I drove the truck with the March 05 build date and it was as smooth as could be. I love the truck but would like to be sure I am not missing something before I sign the papers. Thanks for any imput anyone might have.
Thanks for the info Msatow.I`ll certainly keep that in mind.It seems that with so many fellow Ram owners out there with the same vibe problem,it`s funny (not really funny)that what may work for one owner doesn`t work for another.I would think that there would be alot more people out there agreeing with one fix or another.
One day I hope.........ONE DAY SOON.
2.5 yrs and waiting.......

Its probable been covered but,I pulled my front tire off and I had a lot of dried clay on the inner wheel.I washed them good and my vibration is gone.It is like night and day for me.Maybe it will help some others
