They have already tried a new aluminum driveshaft. Tried the shim up and down tricks. Currently the driveline angle is back like it was from the factory and at 70-75 mph, the vibe is worse now than it ever was. I honestly don't know why I am putting up with this bullsh**. My back floorboard has 5 of those shim/bracket things given to me by the mechanic who has been working on it. Wants me to "experiment" with them and let him know how it turns out. Like he**. I guess he thought I would work on it since the field service rep has told his dealership that they cannot duplicate a vibe and that I have an exhaust drone. Exhaust drones go away while coasting at 75 mph. My vibe doesn't go away when coasting. Got out my warranty info and am now following the instructions by taking it to the dealer where I purchased it. We'll see if they can get it fixed. If not, I smell a replacement brewing.

Well kernersville Dodge has looked at my truck. The regional rep also looked at my truck and they are going to talk to dodge co find out what next to do... I feel good right now that I will get my truck fixed. The people at k-ville dodge are top notch. I hope dodge co dont let me down...
My driveshaft is at a shop now getting checked and balanced if necessary. Although my truck is under warranty, I thought it worth the money to have these guys check it out. The dealer couldn't see me until next week, but I'm taking the truck on a 600 mile trip and wanted to have it checked out before I leave.
My vibration is between 70 and about 78 mph and not terrible, but VERY noticeable and bothersome. I should have it back and in the truck tonight. I'll post my findings then.
By the way, I stopped by a dealer for a fuel filter and leaning agasint the wall and just delivered was a brand new shiny aluminum driveshaft. Looked to be the exact size for my SB QC. I checked about 10 2500 cummins SB QBs on the lot, but they all had steel driveshafts.

Just got back from the driveshaft shop. He said the runout was good (shaft is round/straight).
As for vibration, he said the specs say it should be less than 5/1000ths out, but mine was "almost off the charts" and well above 15/1000ths out. He got it down to 3/1000ths.
I have the shaft back on, and after I put the kids to bed, I'll give her a run up to 70-80 mph and see if it's better.
Any guesses if it will be better / worse / same?

Well.... my vibration is still here.
I'm disappointed that it didn't solve my vibration, so I guess I'll keep working on it. It almost seems as if it vibrates more under accel/decel, but hard to tell. Off to the dealer in a week or so and see what they come up with, darn it.
I guess the $50 was well spent on balancing the shaft - if nothing more than confirming that I still have the issue with a balanced drive shaft. Hmmmmm.

Took it back to the dealer I purchased it from. Service Manager and I went for a drive down the highway at 70-75 mph. His immediate response was "I wanted to ride with you to see if the vibe was the same as it was with an 04 I tried to fix. It is the same and I can't fix it." With that said, I asked if his mechanic could use one of my brackets in the back floorboard to see if it could be fixed. He said yes. They used a much taller bracket which drops the driveline lower. Viberation is still present. SM stated that the 04 he tried to fix was traded on an 05. He said that they did everything they could to fix it including a new rear end and new wheels/tires from another dually on the lot. Nothing helped.
Took mine back in about a week and a half ago, Dealer kept it for one day and I have driven it over 800 miles , No vib, I gave them the info where someone else indexed the rear shaft, rep and dealer techs spent a couple hours indexing and driving the truck, and its fixed. smooth as one could want.
New CTD owner and first diesel. Only 220 miles on mine. Loved the truck until I read about the dreaded DW, lift pump and jaw-dropping vibration at 2K. So far no DW. But there definitely is some vibration starting around 66MPH. It starts as a subtle oscillation and becomes constant at 70. If I wasn't looking for it, I almost would think that it's diesel engine vibration or a rough road. But it always appears at the same speed on smooth roads. If I keep constant speed it's there. If I coast down through that speed range, it's smooth. Doesn't sound like a driveshaft?? Is this indicative of the vibration that I'm reading about?
Driveshaft is steel.
Driveshaft is steel.
For you guys that have indexed the rear shaft.
Did your vib go away when the front shaft was removed?
Before the rear shaft was indexed?
My vib goes away with the front shaft out. I have been thinking of trying to index the front shaft to see if that would help. Dealer has been good about working on it but they don't know what to try next. They have tried 4 front shafts, 1 I had balanced, new rear shaft, new front end and new transfer case. They have also messed with the tires on the wheels. And yes I am in the lemon law process now.

These axles come from American Axle and they have a blue or yellow mark where the DriveShaft bolts up to the Axle. Also the driveshaft has a mark on it as well, both of these marks are supposed to be lined up as close as possible.
If they are not it could cause a vibration, but this is supposed to be caught further down line where it is torqued down. The driveshaft installer, slips the yoke in the Transmission or Transfercase for 4X4's lines up the paint marks on the Driveshaft and the axle and then hand starts the 4 bolts that bolt it to the axle, they will then start 2 of the bolts for the centerbearing if it has one. They Torque it down about 20 jobs down the line and he or she is supposed to verify the marks are lined up, you can see the marks on the outside part of both flanges.
Again, I wouldnt say it is a balancing issue on the driveshaft, the same guy that balances does these also does the 1500 series trucks as well and they do not have that problem.
Now it could be the Axle plant if the marked the mark on the wrong side of the flange. This is more of a possible answer, because once on Truck really you can not check to see if that mark is located in right spot. That would be more of a QA deal for the axle plant.
I would say have the dealer or yourself if you want, go down and remove the flange bolts and just rotate it one hole at a time and see if it gets better. There should be 8 holes in axle flange but only 4 in driveshaft, so you will have 8 possible settings, really only 7 now since it is already installed.
Slip joke has no marks to line up in the transfer case nor transmission so you dont really have to worry about that.
I have a 2004.5 Longbed quad 2 wheel drive and I dont have the vibration

I think the Lemon Law (LL) procedure is in your warrenty book towards the back. I'm not sure because my dog ate the book. Anyways your local dealer should be able to help you get it started, mine did. The dealer knows the vibration exsists but they cant fix it. You will need to go down the LL list in order to make sure you give dodge ample attempts to fix the problem. Then inform the dealers manager that you are going to file suite against dodge. They will then probley call in the dodge area truck engineer to work on the truck. Then if that fails you have no other recourse than to sue them. I hired a LL attorney that works only on LL cases. It wont cost me a dime if I dont collect anything. And if I do the attorney will then ask the court for additional comensation for his services. Still wont cost me anything. The only thing the attorney said I might have to pay for would be a professional witness (mechanic ) that can prove the vibration exsists. The process will take some time but I believe it will be worth it. I will either get my truck fixed, which would make me happy or replaced or compensation. Anyway I feel that its better than sitting on my butt and complaining on this web site. Dodge wont do anything till they are forced. I will be on vacation all next week but will post my results hopefully when I get back. My attorney said dodge should clear this up next week. Good luck
My new Ram 3500 has been at the dealership for two days now and they are still tring to get rid of the vibration. Do you think it could be the rear axle?
They clain the vibration is gone when they removed the rear driveshaft.
They have tried at least two replacement driveshaft assemblies on the truck so far.
My truck has the 11.5" rear axle with the 4.10:1 limited slip diff.
Could it be the pinion bearing pre-load? I think that if that was the problem, you would have vibrations at all speeds and it would change when accelerating and decelerating?
Maybe the limited slip diff?
Could it be the transfer case? I would think the vibration would still be there even after removing the driveshaft.
I am not sure the two-peice driveshaft was checked for phasing of the yokes?
I will keep you posted as to what they find out.

I am not sure if this is relevent but my truck vibrates at 35 to 40 mph as well as at 75 to 80 mph.I have broken 2 flexplates in less than 3000 miles. After the second one the dealer called engineering and they told them to dial the mounting surface of the crank for high spots. It goes in the shop this week I hope they find something.
