2003 Cranks but no start - continued
In reading all threads on the non starting issue I don't see that anyone found the real reason for this happening. I've had both lift pump and injector pump replaced, fuel filters galore changed and it only runs for two or three stop and starts. If the truck sits over night it will not start except with ether. One injector tested marginal and was replaced. Was it a concensus that new injectors was the only cure? Help please!

Add me to the list of 03 no starters. But i have a happy ending. I dealt with this problem for over a year. I even replace the one injector that i thought was the problem. But here is another interesting facet the the story.
I run my vehicle on vegetable oil , once it gets hot. the weird thing is that when i would shut it down of diesel, even after 10 seconds, she wouldnt start back up. but on veggie oil, no problems. i could leave her for hours, and she'd start in less than a second, every single time. I found that a 50% mixture was about the limit for this.
Lately she was starting to idle real bad, and i started seeing F1's in my future. But then today, as a last ditch resort, i poured in some sea foam. Lo and behold, not an hour later, the rough idle was almost gone, and she'll start on diesel just fine. Hopefully tomorrow morning my baby will start up nice. Although if i sit by the exhaust pipe, i can tell one injector is not quite up to par.
SO EVERYONE WITH THIS PROBLEM. GO AND BUY A COUPLE CANS OF SEA FOAM AND USE IT. IT MIGHT SAVE YOU THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS.

do they have connector tubes like the 04.5? I had a similar issue and it needed 10,000 psi rail to start and a connector tube had a dent the size of a pin head and didn't seat properly, only letting pressure get to 7,400 psi. New injectors and it still wouldn't start. But after the new connector tube, just like new. It was a good excuse for my wife to get bigger stix.

Its been along time since I first started this thread...years in fact...but I just signed back on to the site and was reading the post and I figured I should let anyone know who stumbles across it...I ended up replacing all 6 injectors. That solved the problem! Truck has 167,000 miles on it now...

Thought I'd share a recent/similar "NO START" situation I had which may save someone the cost and headache of premature injector replacement... After replacing a bad Lift-Pump @ the filter housing, my truck still had the "NO START" condition. So I finally contacted a close friend with 30+ years of heavy equipment diesel engine experience, and after some further diagnosing of the fuel system and (more specifically) the fuel rail lines, he was able to (slightly) loosen/crack open a few key rail lines to purge some air-locked, air bubbles that I had (stupidly) sucked into the lines by OVER cranking the engine prior to replacing the dead lift-pump in a desperate attemp to get the truck started. After 20 minutes of cracking open a few key rail lines, the air-locked, air-bubbles were able to clear and the truck fired right up! Now before anyone flames my reply, I know someone might argue that the "NO-START" condition was more likely caused by an empty fuel filter bowl or empty fuel lines from the recent Lift-Pump replacement, but I had already double checked the filter bowl and had made sure it was properly purged and full to the top right after replacing the lift-pump! Checking your rail lines for air-bubbles, prior to replacing one or all of your injectors prematurely, sure couldn't hurt!

I have a 2003 Dodge Ram 3500. it will only start with a shot of starting fluid I know its bad Im checking the injectors and I measured the voltage they're giving me a 2.2. is this normal?? I just dont want to have to go through replacing all my injectors if I dont have too.
