Truck cranks but will not start

I have a 1999 dodge with 210K miles. It was starting and running fine. After a 25 degree night, I neglected to wait for the "Wait to start" light to go out. As soon as I turned the key, I realized my mistake and released the key and the engine coughed. I then cycled the key and tried to start. I could hear the lift pump cycle and the light would go out but it would not fire. I did open the water drain on the filter and it seemed to be full of fuel. In the past, if the motor would turn over, it would start immediately. The mechanic says the code says the injector pump is dead. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

well verify the code... Have someone crank the truck over and see how much fuel you are getting after the fuel pump. A high pressure gauge would be your best course of action.

if you "just" opened the valve on your filter to drain water then what is happening is you lost prime of your fuel system. all you need to do is re prime system. someone ca jump in but i believe all you need to do is crack open a injector and crank the engine till it bleeds out then re tighten injector and should crank..

Crack open 3 available injector lines and then crank your engine momentarily. You should hear the LP stay on for about 30 seconds. Look for fuel exiting the injector couplings. If you have fuel coming out then tighten your fittings and crank the engine up. If there is no fuel you have an LP or IP problem. 9 times out of 10 you lost prime and just need to re prime it....

had this exact problem today; never fiddled much with my 24v motor..... turned the yellow lever on the fuel filter & back, then truck wouldn't start. AGGGHHH! snow was already falling & I need my plow truck! Came in & read this post; ended up having to crack almost ALL the injectors open, & crank the motor over off & on for about a half hour total (praying protection over my starter lol). Finally fired & what a relief!
I much prefer the design of my 12 valves; all I have to do is push the plunger button for a few minutes instead.

You can start these engines with silicone sprayed into the intake manif once it fires it will clear the air from the lines

I use WD40, but yea, I have had to run them for several minutes before they took off............ Remove the air horn and grid heater ( I just move it out of the way, and you regulate RPMs by the amount of WD you spray......

Cracking #3 injector line at cyl head is the best way, it is situated on top of injection pump so air goes to top of pump and bleeds out quick.
