06 auto tranny problems

I recently bought 06 5.9 quad cab dually. I am having a problem taking off in low. It seems to wind up before it starts to move. Not every time but enough. I dropped fluid and filter. It was black and a little burnt! So what yas think clutch pack of torque converter? It seems to shift find otherwise. Just initial taking off. Any info would be very appreciated. The truck has 180000 miles on it. Thanks...

About normal for a Dodge tranny LOL.... Sounds like it is time for a aftermarket TC and valve body with rebuild. Sounds like whoever had it before you didn't take to good of care of the fluid changes...

is it normal to slip a little from a stop if you have a load or trying to get over a rock or something?

My truck seems to slip somewhat under these scenarios, but otherwise takes off fine and without a slip if there is no extra load or obstacle.

Yes, that is normal with the stock Torque converter (TC). It is not slipping it just does not have efficient fluid coupling and it shows up under these scenarios. An upgrade will fix that right up. You will be surprised how much power is not getting to the ground with the stock unit.

Sounds like a crapy factory tranie to me. I had a 04 6 speed before this 06 auto and it is like taking a swift kick to the nuts driving this thing. Its unbalivable how much power is lost in this auto. I dont pull heavy buy most peoples standards on here but my toy hauler is not lite either. I have to almost put it to the flore if I am trying to start from a dead stop going up hill. On flat ground its not as bad but its still not good. That and there needs to be a gear between 3rd and 4th. Its to big of a jump. Everyone on here keeps talking abought how awsome these tranies are but in my humble opinion there junk. When mine grenades its gona get replaced with a 6 speed. Ime not messing around with putting money into something that still wont measure up to my old 6 speed. That or if I can aford it before then I may try selling the auto while it still works good to get a little money out of it to help pay for the swap.

Are you saying it slips when you first start out for the day or at every stop light?

First of the day is the converter drain back. Let it idle in neutral for 20 seconds before you go.

At every stop light would be tranny trouble.

My '06 doesn't slip like that. I let off the brake, and it starts moving. If I am facing up hill, with a load, I might need a little throttle, but just off idle.

No problems with my Stock A4 but I have half the miles on mine. Sounds like if you have gotten 180K on a stock tranny you have done pretty well. I am looking to upgrade my trans well this one lets out. Just hoping to get 150K out of mine.

Your clutches must be shot. Time for a rebuild.
