The technician came out and when I explained what I wanted he said he had never heard of this.
Shouldn't this be STANDARD training and knowledge with technicians? Why is this such "top secret" info among technicians?

I just don't get it?

My point in mentioning this was to help others not be discouraged if the dealer seems to lack knowledge. The feature is there, and the customer can often help train the dealer.

This technician did make the comment that because of the internet, customers seem to get the new info faster than the guys who spend all day under the hood. Speciallized training comes periodically, but sometimes months pass between updates.

That said, If I was a CTD technician, I'd be spending time every night here. (heck, I do anyway.)

Prevents wetstacking, faster warm up, warmer engine in the winter and better A/C sitting in parking lots.

Yes. Cylinder washdown with fuel, unburnt fuel collecting on valves preventing them from closing.

I have the High-Idle on my 600, but a buddy of mine has an 03 555 and was wanting to know if it can be enabled on his truck as well.

Wait a minute... I recall his being the 6-spd, so it couldn't be enabled anyhow even if it was a 600 could it?

It can't be enabled both because it's a six speed AND because it's an '03. There was a major change from '03 to'04 in the engine control systems. '03 has both an ECM and PCM. '04 has only a ECM. '03 is DC software. '04 is Cummins. (I think this is right!). If not someone with a better memory will correct me.

The '04 555 must have the 004-04 TSB reflash done, then the high idle feature enabled. The '04.5 and '05 600s already have the feature. It just must be enabled by a dealer tech. Again, it's only applicable to automatic transmissions. Why? Ask DC.

The high idle feature being discussed is the one controlled by the cruise control, not the low temp one.

You don't get it? "IT" is that you have an interactive community with groups of people that share knowledge on your particular vehicle. All the way from techs, aftermarket specialists, vendors, etc... Techs on the other hand have to keep up on so many model years and changes and different vehicle lines it's impossible to keep up on the updates. There's guys in my shop that have no clue about the high idle enable, but they don't work on the diesel truck. I live in the desert. High idle isn't much of a concern out here, but through this board, I was familiar with it enough to know when the first guy came through the door inquiring about it. Knowledge is king no matter how it is gained.

Cool Wayne, thanks for the info... I wasn't sure if the earlier models could have it done and like I said, it wasn't until after I started typing that I remembered he had the 6-spd.

Darn -- so this is not available at all for 6 spds? I'm jealous... My buddy's '05 6.0 Ford has a single setting one already there, just needs a switched trigger current.

All ECM's have the algorithm for the high idle feature. Its original intent was for PTO operation but was shot down for whatever reason.

In the auto's its approved due to the park/nuetral switch being available as a safety. There is no switch in the manual trucks, so the high idle is not approved. Basically, it would be possible to engage 1st gear and do a launch at 1500rpm (until the ECM sensed vehicle speed>0 and would automatically shut the high idle feature off). I know they were working on a switch that you would get from Mopar but I haven't heard if it was released yet.
