04.5 high idle???

I've searched the forum and am more confused than ever. Can I have the high idle feature enabled or do I have to have a TSB performed? If so, which TSB? If a TSB is performed, then does the feature have to enabled?

Thanks, Les

I was fueling the wifes 04.5 the other day and left it idling, after about 2 minutes it was on fast idle..............the truck came this way so I am assuming the tsb was already done on it??? I do like it tough. I looked in the book and it says that if the throttle and brake are not touched and the ambient temp is low ( doesnt say what temp) and the coolant is below 200* the truck will high idle after 2 minutes.

Cheers, Kevin

Whitmore - the TSB high idle is a MANULLY invoked thing... not the same as the cold temp "forced" high idle... to have the manual high idle you have to turn on the the curse control and and bump set, will go to approx 1100 rpm.. can bump 3 more times I think, each 100 rpms to 1500 rpms.. tap on brake to release....

must have the TSB done are the truck or must have been updated on lot... only works on AUTO transmissions..

it is a 2 step process.. must have TSB done and then have TECH enable the high idle on the options page via the scanner...

do a search for the TSB should be ALL over the place... just search with a wildcard.. ie: *TSB* on title search...

04.5 MODEL RAMS HAVE THIS ALREADY INSTALLED IN THE PCM. YOU MUST GO TO THE DEALER TO HAVE IT ENABLED. ONCE ENABLED YOU JUST TURN THE CRUISE ON AND HIT SET. IT WILL THEN JUMP TO 1000 RPM AND IF YOU HIT ACCELL IT WILL GO AS HIGH AS 1500 RPM. IT WILL TURN OFF ANY OF THE FOLLOWING WAYS, MANUALLY TURN OFF THE CRUISE CONTROL OR TOUCH THE BRAKE. HOPE THIS HELPS END THE CONFUSION. I TOO WAS CONFUSED WHEN READING ALL THESE POSTS ON THIS. BY THE WAY EARLIER MODELS PRIOR RO 04.5 MUST HAVE THE TSB DONE AT THE DEALER AND THEN THEY MUST GO BACK INTO THE PCM AND ENABLE THIS FEATURE OR IT STILL WILL NOT WORK.

Agreed, and the TSB is confusing. The older trucks, those listed in the TSB, need the reflash to have this feature.

Newer trucks have the feature, it just needs to be enabled with a DRBIII. It's really easy to enable if you've got access to the tool.

Oh man, that's classic-the curse control! How does that work? Do you turn it on when you cut someone off so they don't cuss at you, or does it prevent you from cursing? Maybe concerned parents can invoke it to keep filth from exiting their children's mouth?

I'm just kidding, not making fun of you. That was just a particularly funny typing error, it started my day off right.

I had to have TSB 18-037-04 performed in order for the dealer to enable the high idle feature. They tried to enable it beforehand but were unsuccessful. I will have hand calculated mileage info the day after Thanksgiving, it's the way my fueling works out. The high idle feature is great!! I had to "BUY" a high idle unit for my Ford.

IF I read this thread right, my 2.004.5 has the latest TSB already done. Enabling the high idle feature allows me to manually adjust the idle speed.

What about the other (if any) TSB features - mileage, shifting, etc? Or are these already "enabled"?

There wasn't much else to adjust in the DRB. DRL's could be turned on. The seatbelt dinger, auto lock options. Horn honk...

Nothing really pertaining to the driveline except the high idle.

When the TSB was done today, I asked the dealer to enable the high (cruise control) idle.

When the truck was delivered, I tried to initiate the high idle and it did not work. The technician came out and when I explained what I wanted he said he had never heard of this. I explained it was set in the same routine as the auto door locks, seat belt dinger, etc.

He said, "Really!" Went and got his control unit and plugged it into the port beneath the dash panel. We scrolled through the menus but could not find the item. Finally, he checked under miscellaneous in the drivetrain section and there it was, last item down on the list. Set to enable and Voila. It worked.

The technician said, "You learn something new every day."
