What to use for brake pad grease??
What do you guys use for brake grease? I'm talking about that stuff you apply on the back of the pads to help with squeaking. I always buy those $1 packets at Autozone, and I was wondering if there is an alternative.

do not use that. if it heats up too much it'll turn into liquid and get on your pads/rotors.
find something really high temp. those packets from autozone should do you fine. i do not remember this stuff i used to use when i was working in a shop. it sprayed on blue. seemed to work pretty good. otherwise if the pads have shims i wouldnt' really worry about spraying them.

In my search I found this link:

I still have the same tube of silicone brake grease I got when I did my 1996 stratus brakes. 1 tube seems to last a lifetime.

CRC makes a product in a bottle. Its orange and I think around 5 bucks. I bought a bottle probably 5 years ago and have done a half dozen brake jobs with it.
Its also not a grease if its the same stuff I'm talking about. What it does is acts almost like a glue to keep the pads stuck to the puck on the caliper. This keeps it from squealing by retracting with the puck when the pressure is released from the system.
Thats how it was explained to me anyway.

I do 3 or 4 Brake jobs a day at work. We use Sil-glyde. I toss the shims that come with the pads, I've seen them fall down a cut into the rotors. We had a honda rotor that was cut into 2 peices buy a shim.
