Smell fresh oil...

I smell the Castrol 15w 40 I put in my engine when idling at a light, very faint but its there...

I'm sure its coming out of the blowby tube, but there are no visible vapors or leaks... (about the size of a dime in the morning)

Is this normal?

Dipstick is the same as the day I changed the oil...

Oil is clean...

Does diesel oil stink that bad?

This was the first change I did in my truck and never smelled diesel oil before... it reaks!

What you are smelling is a wax like additive used in all diesel engine oils that holds other additives in suspension. It burns off when the oil is heated, thus the smell.
Most modern oils contain around 10% additives besides the base oil.

Depending on the oil 300-500 miles.
Some oils are way stronger smelling than others.

The reason the link satburn posted says 99-2000 models is because it's dated Feb 18, 2000. They didn't want to make a statement about a truck they had not made yet!!
