rear disc brakes started in 2001.5
2000 is likely to have "53" block
I have been told that the CAD on the front diff was removed for 2001.5 and up
no real major differences

I think the CAD was removed on the 2002.5 and up truck because my 2002.4 truck has a CAD on it still. I remmebr someone else on the forum talking about it too.

You are correct.

2000 will have the most "extras".
Little things were dropped each year to cut costs.
Things like hood blankets, full length body molding, rear seat cup holders, lighted ignition switch, tailgate protector, rear wheel well liners,
and more I forget.

And what about a little earlier 1999 or 1998?

2000 and earlier - No HO engines, rear drum brakes
2001 - HO engines available, rear drum brakes until 2001.5
2001.5 - 2002.5 - HO engines available, rear disc brakes, CAD
2002.5 on - HO engines available, rear disc brakes, no CAD

So I take it that any year (except the 53 block) late 1990s to 2002s are good and reliable with no special problems? Still don't know what a CAD is.

Not all 2000's have the dreaded 53 block. Mines not!
