DSSSteering Stabilizer
I would love to say this is the last question for the day but no guarantees .
I am about to go into town to pick up my DSS Steering Stabilizer and poly bushings for my new trackbar. I have read the instructions from Solid Steel on their website for the DSS installation but one thing isn't clear. Am I going to need a pitman arm puller? I assime this thing braces the shaft that comes out of the bottom of the steering box that the pitman arm is attached to.

You do not need a pitman arm puller to install the DSS. You would need it to pull the pitman arm off of the steering box.

I cannot believe the difference that thing makes. My truck steers almost as well as my car now. From now on, when there are any discussions about play and wander in the steering of our trucks, I will be the first to answer. Get a DSS, install it and call me in the morning.

Glad to hear everything went well! I did not notice much of a difference when I installed mine, but then again the truck had less than 10k miles on it at the time...

I suspect you saw a huge improvement because your lower bearing in your steering box is worn, good thing is the brace will support the lower bearing and extend the life of your box by at least 500%
I never saw a huge improvement when I added mine. but I had a new box at the time, that I wore out in two months (cardone) the lower bearing failed causing a huge PS leak, I was refused warrantee because my truck was used commercially, so 50$ to Napa got me a kit that included seals and a bearing, 200$ got me a brace and it has not leaked since Apr 08 (365,000kms) I'm now at 512,000kms, that was at lot of intown driving! all in all it has been a good product.

Between the SS and the Trac Bar, my steering is rock solid now. It was terrible before especially pulling a trailer. I'd go into turns, turn the wheel and nothing would happen. Real scarry. Now, no problem.

You saw improvement because those were problem areas on YOUR specific truck. They will not fix other problems ie bad steering shaft, too little caster, bad ball joints, worn tie rods, rotational play in steering box etc. Accurate diagnosis is less expensive than part throwing. Glad you got lucky.

Yes Junk Man, I saw an improvement due to that being my problem. I was telling Tallguy67 that it also helped me out. I don't know how the conversation got directed to your issues. If I had had those other problems, I would have addressed them and not installed the DSS. My case, like Tallguy67, was resolved using the DSS. Like him, it was the best money I ever spent!
