TC lockup only when letting off throttle

I have done a search to see if this is normal but haven't seen it. The trans shifts great but will not lock up until I ease off the throttle. Once it's in, it stays in until I have to slow down enough for a normal downshift. It's as if only a slight adjustment to something would line this out. Looking for answers.

Use a test light or meter while driving to rule out electrical problems first.
connect it to the tc lock up wire orange/black. The light will go out or the voltage will drop when the converter is ordered to lock.

You'll find it in the engine bay, on the firewall on the passenger side. There are three plugs that go into the ECM. The orange w/ black tracer wire will be on the center plug. The thing is though, the orange w/ black wire is not power. In order to lock the torque converter, the EMC "grounds" the curciut.

Thanks for some direction to go. If this Or/blk wire is the ground, it would seem the voltage would read when the ECM grounds it.

I have connected a Volt meter to the Orange/blk wire with the VM black going to the wire and the VM red going to the battery. No voltage while in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd until speeds coming up to 40mph then full voltage is seen on the V meter.

The voltage I'm reading is 13+ volts at steady throttle at or approaching highway speed and 0 when I let off the pedal.

Ok, PM sent to you. It sounds like the T/Q lock up curciut is operating correctly. But you say it will only actually lock after letting off the throttle a little bit? Sounds like the T/Q is slipping and going out on you.

Thanks, this gives me some idea of what my local trans shop mechanic should be looking for. What drives me bonkers about all this is the trans shifts crisp through all gears and even into OD at the correct time and the TC holds strong once it's locked.

None but what you have read. I continue to have the problem, just let off after reaching cruise speed to allow lockup. If you get something post it on this thread.

I believe i have the same problem, 1st, 2nd, and 3rd shift good and firm, while in 3rd gear at about 40mph feel like truck should shift to lock up but just cruises and engine at about 17- to 1800 rpm. Slightly let off accelerator and trans shifts to lock up then accelerate on up to 45mph and shifts to overdrive. If you dont let off pedal trans stays in 3rd until you get to 45 and shifts into lockup/overdrive.

That's exactly how mine is, I wondered if it should be this way? Got 125K on mine

Mine will do that and then it will start the lock/unlock business. Clean the grounds on both batteries and it shifts when it should and stays locked up.
