Continues to Rev after letting off

When I am out of gear and rev the engine, it continues to rev for a second or so after I let off of the go pedal. Is this normal? I tried searches on here for this issue, but didn't have any luck. I have an automatic tranny if that makes a difference. Also if this requires a reflash or something, do you have to take it to a dealer or are there other shops that can do that?

Yeppers. My '03 does it. But then I'm not in the habit of free revving it...

Thanks, I'm relieved to know that it's not a problem. I probably shouldn't have been free revving it either.

I'd bet a little money you have a cracked injector.

Just my guess.

I believe the APPS (or TPS whatever you want to call it) on the 2003's were known for that. My '05 has done it (on a rare occasion) and my injectors are new.

My 2003 with nv5600 has done this from day one! Gets good mileage and has plenty of power. I figure I'll just leave well enough alone.

I believe it is normal. If you are on the throttle heavy and let off and the fuel dropped off immediately, the pressure on the intercooler side of the turbo would be greater than the pressure on the intake side. You would "bark" the turbo often if it worked like that.
The computer brings the fuel down slowly (relatively speaking) to prevent other mechanical problems, or so I have heard. This will feel like the motor is "running away" for a second until the rpm's drop down a little.

It is a wierd feeling especially when you are accelerating from a stop and have to hit the brakes suddenly.
