Help? Engine Continues to Run After Key is Off

I did a search but didn't find much on this topic. I have a 99 with about 240k on the clock. It also has an Edge Attitude installed with turbo timer function "off". It has been running fine otherwise, but the other day I turned it off after a long drive and it continued to run. I had to pull the Fuel Pump Relay to make it stop. The next time I drove it the same thing happened. I can take the key out of the ignition switch and it stays running with the Check Engine and ABS system lights on. IIRC when I disconnected the FP relay they stayed on, so I disconnected the batterys. At first it would not let me read the codes. Finally I got connected and found 1689 and 1693. I checked the voltage across the ASD relay coil with the key off and found about 4.5 volts, but this doesnt seem to be enough to trip the relay. With the key on there is about 12 volts across the coil and of course it trips the relay. Any ideas would sure be appreciated.

Sounds like your fuel isn't getting cut out at shutdown. On the 12 valves it a Fuel shut off solenoid, but its different on the 24v's.

Should get some answers soon....

Disconnect the edge and see what it does.

Well, I checked for shorts, codes, ignition switch function etc and couldn't find anything wrong. I replaced the ASD and Fuel Injection relays and have not had the problem since. I hope this helps someone.

When it was runnin away did it kill itself or did you have to stuff a rag into the intake to choke it to death? I'm only asking bc i've had two different diesels do that to me and they've always killed themselves.

My 6.0L Power Stroke would sometimes rev itself sky high before it ran out of the fuel in the lines, and i've got an old 86 F800 with the 7.8L Inline-6 Ford that all i have to do is pump the thorttle a few tims and it'll die.
