T-Case oil ??
I really need to change my transefer case oil and was told that the T-case oil for my truck was a "dealer only" item.
Naturally I called around anyway looking for alternatives and was told that Valvoline Maxlife ATF or Pennzoil Synchromesh was compatable. Haw anyone used these in the T-cases ? Also, I have no manual for my truck and need to kow how much I need to completely change the T-case oil.?? Thanks for the info.....

Any ATF will work just fine.
I think they come from the factory with ATF+3 in them, as Dodge had a lot left over when they mandated we use ATF+4 in our auto trannys.

Just go to Walmart and purchase a gallon jug of ATF3. You will be all set. While you are there pick up one of them spouts and mount it on the gallong jug, squeeze in into the transfer case. You will have some oil left over for the oil can.

According to the service manual I have, the NV241 standard T-case has a 5.0 pint capacity. The HD version holds 6.5 pints.
I use 4X4 quite a bit in winter plowing snow, and I've opted to look for something a little more robust than automatic transmission fluid. I've found a product from Specialityformulations.com called MTFGlide. It's the same viscosity as ATF but it contains 5 times more anti-wear additives. Just put this stuff in this spring, so haven't really put it to the test yet.

The NV241 is basically a heavier version of the NV231 in Jeeps. They use dexron. I've been using dexron in my NV241 as well. It's cheaper. Change it every season, no problems in 130,000 miles. I think mine will only take 3 quarts.

Both of mine call for Dexron as well, but are older that yours. I thought that I read somewhere that there could be problems will the wrong fluid affecting the seals.
I found this to be a good way to change the fluid.
