Problems with Truck

My truck has been acting up since I had the Carter pusher pump system installed at BD. I've noticed it is blowing a lot of white smoke, when it is idle and drive, the truck seems to lurch forward rhythmically, like in waves, and the idle is stays at about 800rpm, but the motor gets louder and quieter in waves as well. Under cold acceleration, the truck seems to lurch as if you have dropped the clutch, and occasionally it will shudder like the motor momentarily seized. It threw the 1693 code and check engine light last night. I'm absolutely stumped. I turned off my Edge Comp, and it seems to run better, with the problems happening less frequently, but its still giving me some grief. Any ideas? Any tips or suggestions would be much appreciated.
Thanks alot,
Ian

sounds like it may be time to check the connections for the edge unit, clean and dielectric grease on them to keep them clean and sending "clean" signals. as for the tapped wire clean that area good and grease it too if possible, this salty season makes for a nightmare in electrical gremlins.

Ian, P1693 is the companion code, it's telling you there's another code. Take your truck to Autozone and borrow their scanner to find out what the other codes are.

I have a bad feeling your gonna find the 0216 code in there, because they seem to be the same symptoms i had when my vp44 gave up. I hope its not that but that would be my guess.

Sound like the white smoke is something mine did when the VP44 started going out. But I was thinking was the cold weather doing it. Nope the VP44 threw a P0216 and she was heading out... 50K miles... Not bad but not good either...
