P0500, P1693
P0500, P1693
Good morning,
I recently switched from running 265/70-16 tires to 305/70-16 tires. I drove this past weekend from NC to Florida, and back. On the way back I was towing my old vw, and somewhere in SC when I pulled over for a break I noticed that the truck idled at about 1000rpm. When I shut it off and came back the idle went back to normal. When I got home it did the same thing.
This morning when I got to work I noticed that I had a P0500 followed by a p1693. I searched and see that the p0500 and p1693 go together, and that p0500 is a VSS malfunction. Could the switch to the larger tires and/or the road trip with towing have anything to do with this?

Idle speed read here https://www.dieseltruckresource.com/...d.php?t=238441
I think the P0500 can be set by spinning tires and jamming on the brakes(or some odd combination of the wheels not keeping even speed), I seem to get it after i am screwing around in snow or mud.

Thanks for your replies. I wasn't spinning the wheels that I am aware of, but as I mentioned I was towing an extremely light vw bug and using cruise most of the way back from Florida to NC.
Anyway, I've been driving back and forth to work this week with no further problems.
