Angry P1693/P0500 Woes!

Just thought I'd share the wonderful experience I had twice today. We got a bad ice storm the other night here in West by God, and I had to get groceries for my mom and pop, well as I attempted to ascend their driveway, I had no traction, the truck starting bucking and shaking (felt like I was sled pulling), then I finally goosed my way up the hill. A few questions for you, ladies and gentlemen:

1) At some points, I thought I could smell oil (that distinct diesel oil smell)

2) I switched to 4LO on the transfer case, and it (transfer case) made horiffic grinding noises.

3) My trans temp soared to about 180* and my EGT were about 650*.

4) I checked for codes and got: P1693 and P0500.

5) After checking Alldatapro program this is what I found:

- P0500: No Vehicle Speed Sensor Signal
No Vehicle Speed Sensor Detected During Road Load Conditions

What have I done to my truck??

6) I WILL NEVER BUY TRAILBUSTER RADIAL A/T'S EVER AGAIN. They suck very bad!!!! No traction, grab, nothing!

Any suggestions? Is P0500 serious? How can I correct the problem and reset the ECM/PCM?

Thanks.

i would say one set of tires was turning at a different speed when you went into 4lo.

shift it in and out a few times, on flat ground with tractoin ( no turns, not accelerating ) and if no noise, all good.

you could look over all your tranny connections to make sure some snow or ice did not knock some wires loose?

Uggh, to go into 4LO have to be almost stopped. Moving worward very slow and mine goes right into 4lo.
Wheel spin will set the P0500. I still have a P0500 code. Think fast idiling will also set the P0500. Don't seem to hurt the runnin' none.
Let us know if you have a problem once on dry level pavement.

The code will go away after so many engine starts ( sorry I do not remember how many) - gets set from wheel slip.

shewwww.....
Thanks, fellas. I'm so relieved that P0500 is not a major issue

K-bit, so you're thinking that may be a possibility? I have used the ol' plunger between the seat and throttle to high idle her when I get up for work, the sun aint even up and it is COOOOOOLD

I am idiling the truck between 700-2000, problably a little too excessive, what do ya'll think?

Do you think my junk tires have any ill effect on my experience?

Thanks again guys!

I have a spare plunger or two if your ever in need of another one.....in case yours breaks....

Come up off of that state money you have & put an electric start on "ol" green.

Idle it up to about 1,000 RPM's and let it go at that.

Your friendly exhaust technician..... ,

Thanks Humpster. Do the plungers come with or without the rubber cups?

Well for you, I can do either option..... I personally like it with the rubber cups (as long as their clean)
