Just like the title reads. Its coming from where the wires run into the top for the fuel heater. I'm thinking about pulling the filter head off, pulling the rubber seal out, and attempting to re-seal it with Permatex. Has anyone else had this problem and what did you do to fix it? If anyone has any better suggestion, I'm all ears.

Remove the housing and have a welder TIG weld the opening shut.Permanent fix.
Mine hasn't started to leak yet but I did unplug the heater long ago so it didn't wear the seal from heat.

If I understand your problem it is leaking from the fuel heater.
This happened to me a few weeks ago. I removed the heater from the fuel filter and replaced the o-rings.
So far no leaks. Where I live I need the fuel heater.

how hard is it to replace that o-ring? I have a 99 cummins doing the same thing.

very east just remove the filter head from truck you will need to cut the red and black wires then inside under the head there are 3 torques T25 screws remove ,push heater in side ,place new oring reassemble reconnect wires ...about a buck and your time

Rebel is right about how easy it is.
I unplugged the wire going to the heater rather then cut the wires.

take the plug a part as long as your sure you can get it back together. Its not very hard. The repair should take a total of an hour maybe two.

IF ITS WORTH DOING IT WORTH DOING IT RIGHT!!! If it take a little longer it takes a little longer! The last thing anyone wants is diesel fuel getting sprayed all over the engine.

USE THE RIGHT TOOL FOR THE RIGHT JOB!!!
If you don't have the right tool go buy it or borrow it from someone.
