Check the O-ring on the cap, they get replaced with every filter change. Also the cap may be cracked, they are plastic and sometimes crack at the top where the hex is molded in. I believe the fuel heater is down on the side of the housing.

I recently had the same problem. In my case it was the result of accidently leaving the old O-ring on and adding the new one. The ring is black and so is the cap. After removing the two damaged ones and installing a new one, no more leak.

No plastic cap on the 1998.5. It's leaking from the wires at the top which is common, most have used silicon or mayb jb weld to reseal.

Thanks Copenhagenjunkie. My Dad Suggested That Too. I Just Wanted Some More Opinions Before I Went That Route. Have You Heard Of A Delete Kit For That?? I Live In Northern California And It Doesnt Get As Cold Here As Canada Where The Truck Was Manufactered. If I Can Just Eliminate It It Would Be Better For Me To Bypass It Than Have It Do It To Me Again. Thanks Again For Responding.. Happy Holidays!!!

I have not heard of a delete kit. I would not want to delete, 1 trip into cold climate could spell trouble. I would do a search here to see how others fixed that problem.

Cummins have a replacement grommet for it? Wouldn't be too tough to swap it out once a year during a filter change.

The only real "delete kit" Ive seen is a upgraded lift pump. Most of them have a filter and water seperator (and lift pump of course) taht attaches to the framerail. From there, you remove the OEM fuel filter housing.

I think the delete kit the OP is talking about is for a 12V.

Check the fittings and bleed fitting on top of housing, and fuel lines in area.

Yeah, no prob. I didn't see that your truck was a 98.5 when I answered, it'll differ from my 01.5!

I'd keep the fuel heater in there if you're in NorCal. I wouldn't think it would make that big a performance difference taking it out, unless your racing or sled pulling etc.

Earlier this week....

... and from 2006
https://www.dieseltruckresource.com/....html?t=123810

The hardest part is getting the red and black wires OUT of the connector to install a new $.69 o-ring. You will need to purge the air out after this work. Just loosen a Banjo bolt a LITTLE when you bump the starter. Otherwise you end up with a lot of fuel in the driveway. This is expereince talkin' here!
