High Idle question

I'm looking for any information on setting a high Idle on my 01 24 valve. I read somewhere that a wire from the harness needed to be grounded through a switch but I am unable to locate that information. Any help would be appreciated. thanks

Re:High Idle question

Go to the dealer and get the computer looked at. They can un-lock the high-idle feature.

Re:High Idle question

I think the wire you are talking about is for the p.t.o. I also read that somewhere, if i rember correctly it was in the wire harness going across the firewall under the hood somewhere around center, i believe it was marked with a tag that said p.t.o. i think that they applied 12 volts to it to get it to work, but i am not sure what happened next. I think you still have to get the computer programmed to set idle speed for the p.t.o. or like kimrey said just go to the dealer and have your high idle feature enabled, it should already be in the computer, if not, they can install it and then enable. Can't see where you are from, but this only works in the cold weather, no good for idling up in summer for the a.c, gona have to get one of psdieselproducts slick high idlers for that, or a long stick ;D hope this helps.

rob

Re:High Idle question

If you have an aftermarket CD player, just do what I do take the faceplate case and jam it between the dash and the pedal

Re:High Idle question

I don't remember anyone who got the "high idle PTO" to work.
As I recall that's only an option on the larger Cummins-only ECM. We have the Dodge Cummins ECM with less features.
My High-Idler is a piece of 2" wooden dowel cut to fit between the throttle pedal and the seat frame to give me 1200 RPM when warming up.
Cost= $0.0, my $200 went to my guages.

Re:High Idle question

Over on the TDR board several months back (a search on 'high idle' there should give you good start - it could be back as far as 5 or 6 months as well) there was a lot of talk about this hi idle/pto wiring trick.. But it seems it would work for one person and not another - one would ground the PTO wire and someone else would hook 12 v to it and both got it to work.. I also remember that it was discssed that our trucks didnt have the PCM that shovelhead mentioned. Im not sure if there was a final verdict..

I got the dealer cold weather idle enabled.. but so far i had it plugged in all the nights cold enough for it to work.. I also got a 'throttle stick' at a truck stoop ($6) to use while it warms up..

good luck

Re:High Idle question

Ok, the guys name is Harold, The number is 208-459-7849. Real nice guy, as soon as he got the check he overnighted it to me. Took about 1hr to install and of that hour about 40 mins of it was me trying to put the switch in a bad spot,( I had to drill out some metal from behind the dash). I will have my picts on pretty soon on the webshots thing. He makes kits for the 94-98 12 valvers and for the 24. He sends the kit with everything you need.
Chase

Re:High Idle question

i just use the High idler device from this website

http://www.psdieselproducts.bizland.com/index.html

It hooks to the wiring for the throttle valve, and it has a dial to adjust the idle from 0 (idle) to 1500 RPM and every little adj in between. Very effective
Re:High Idle question
I have the same high idle setup as Eric. Works great, and can set at different positions without having different length sticks.

1 stick + Power Seats = infinitely adjustable idler.

Re:High Idle question

I use a A/C kick up solenoid from a 81-81 Pontiac, it actually has a brass sort of looking bracket w/3 holes, and one has to be oblonged a little and it bolts right on, you just turn the end out a little at a time until the desired RPM is met.

-43 celcius with -58 wind chill 2 weeks ago...High idle at 1500,no fan, and I had to turn the heater on low,and barley keep the frost off in order to keep heat in the motor

The 3 cylinder warm up would kick in in less than 2 minutes if it was left idling w/o kicking up the RPM.

If I turned the heat on it would knock it down to barely above 60.
