Difference in VP44 pumps

I am getting ready to buy a VP44 for the Dodge this week, but want to make sure I get a good one. IS there any difference in the various pumps and rebuilt units out there? Are some better than others (ie last longer). What makes one better or different from another one. I have a place that is local to me that can rebuild them inhouse (Diamond Diesel www.diamonddiesel.com ) I can get them there for 1145 OTD. Does this place sound toop cheap, or am I getting a descent deal.

Thanks
DIma

This is a Bosch shop, and the lift pump was replaced about 1000 miles ago.

That's a decent price. You might find up to $75 or $100 less somewhere...but you'll have shipping and long distance warantee.

Brand new pumps from Bosch (Dodge) are $1700 +/-.
Blue Chips VP-44, with supposed better (Fed Ex) electronics are $1600. I think, but do not know, that all remanufactured VP-44's are going this way. I took my chances on local for $1,100.

I have a friend that had his pump rebuilt by the local dodge dealer. The pump was sent to a company in Orlando, Florida for the rebuild. The truck was getting 21 on the hwy before the rebuild, and 18 afterwards. Now, the truck has more pickup and tows real good. It does not get the mpg as before. So, there is some differances in the rebuild.

The truck is a 2001 2500 quad cab, 3:54 rear automatic tranny.

Just throw A HotRod VP-44 in there while you have it torn down.

If it is rebuilt at bosch authorized shop it will have the better electronics no matter which shop biulds it. There is a bosch date code in the computers serial number that tells if it was built before or after the electronics change. the price is about right for otd. they are right you might find one cheaper on line but there is nothing like being able to walk in the shop and asking for help.

Happen to know the code? Or the date that the newer electronics started being used?

This information is correct! I spoke with Bosch about the updated electronics for the FEDEX trucks. He researched for half a day trying to find out if it was true or not. No Dice. He said if there are any new updates, all new/rebuilt pumps will receive them.

You can take the number off your pump and call Bosch, they will research for you.

Does not matter to me...I already bgt & installed mine, so I'm stuck with what I have. Just thought, for others, and future reference in general, it would be good info to have and tuck away somewhere!

True enough. For a big corporation, Bosch was very helpful. More than I would have thought.
