OK here goes, the ECM in mounted to the side of the engine, it controlls the VP and other engine related things. It then recieves and transmits information to the PCM mounted on the firewall on the passenger side. They communicate through "A CCD data bus" When they dont communicate with each other for one reason or another you get a code. It is probably a wiring problem but it can also be an internal problem.
1693 and 1694 are usually companion codes meaning they aren't communicating on a specific task. They will usually reset after a specific number of engine cycles and may be set off if you flash your ECM program or do something with a chip. These codes are usually not important but just refer you to the other control unit (PCM or ECM). As long as there are no other codes, I would just clear them and see if something else shows up later....
Just my 1.8 cents (inflation sucks)....
