2001 2500 Transmission

??? My 2001 2500 has some type of transmission problem. Symptons: From dead stop, press accelerator, engine revs up and transmission seems to be slipping until the truck picks up some speed, then fully engages. Any ideas?

TO begin, I assume our truck is an automatic. does the condition occur every time you start off, or only the first time after sitting. There is often some drain back of fluid. Run the truck in neutral for a few seconds to get the fluid circulating. Next, I assume, also, that you have checked the fluid level. Either too little fluid or too much fluid will create slipping.
good luck.
george

How many miles on it? Have you ever adjusted the bands on it?

Re:2001 2500 Transmission

Sympton Update:
The truck has automatic trany with 39,000 miles. Trany fluids have not been changed, but due at 45,000. A new sympton started two days ago. Now sometimes the when I press the accelerator, the engine seems to not want to take the gas and rev up. This has occured both in neutral and while driving. I took it to the shop Friday and they said the turbo injector pump was going bad and that I needed a trany fluid change. I am not sure if both of the symptoms are related.
No repairs have been previosuly to the trany.

Sounds like a TPS problem causing a 2nd gear start.

Turbo Injector Pump?
No such animal.
I would run from that shop as fast as 2nd gear will let you.

My vote is also for "limp mode".
PCM will keep the truck in 2nd gear, just enough to get you off the road out of danger.

You might also try an APPS reset found here:
https://www.dieseltruckresource.com/...p;onlynewfaq=1
(Accelerator Pedal Position Sensor)

If that doesn't work, take it to a well respected 5 star Dealer,
everything should still be under warranty, drive train wise.
You are out of the 3yr/36,000 but the 7yr/100,000 is still well in effect.
(or whatever the big one was back in 2001)

Took truck to shop this morning. They replaced a fuel injector pump and serviced the transmission. Truck is now working normal. The pump was covered under 100,000 warranty which cost Chrysler almost $1200.

I know you figured out the problem, here's another to watch out for. My truck was doing something similar at 50K's but it was starting in 3rd gear and would rev high until the KM's got high enough. Thankfully the auto-transmission had a recall and was under warranty.

Re:2001 2500 Transmission

I have a 2001 dodge ram 2500. My automatic transmission is doing the same thing. I started the truck the other day and took off down the road, and to my surprise i couldnt go over 20 mph. I would hold the accelorater to the floor and nothing would happen not even an rpm change. Then i backed up and sat for a minute then it started to shift fine. I have 83,000 miles on it and have put bigger injectors, blocked off my waste gate, installed a boost fooler, and a transmission line pressure booster from BD power. If you think you might know what it is let me know thanks. Brooks ??? ??? :-
